"And ape people, and some primitive humans, and stuff like that. And none of them are all that interested in the outside world, and I really am."

[Kay Haddock]

"That is the reason why you never dated one of them? Not that they're... you know... ape-people!?"

[Brigid Plunder]

"Well it's... it's not so weird if you grow up around it. It only kind of feels weird when I talk about it with normal kids."

[Kay Haddock]

"It is kinda weird, Bri."

[Brigid Plunder]

She sighed.

"I know it is, but the real deal breaker is just... we didn't have anything to talk about, eventually. They were cool when I was little, but I guess I want more now."

[Kay Haddock]

"Ooookay then. On the bright side, you'll be here again soon."

[Brigid Plunder]

"What? How is it different from mutants?"

[Kay Haddock]

"It... I mean... Are they even all the way human?"

[Brigid Plunder]

"Well how do you even define that?"

[Kay Haddock]

"I... I dunno!"

[Brigid Plunder]

"They're as smart as humans, most of them. I mean, culturally they're pretty primitive, but they're not animals or anything."

[Kay Haddock]

"But... like... I mean..." she mumbles.

[Brigid Plunder]

"I'm just saying, they should be treated as fairly as you or Colin, right?"

[Kay Haddock]

"But I... I mean it's... That's different."

[Brigid Plunder]

"It doesn't seem like it the way I grew up. Everybody's people, some just look different."

[Kay Haddock]

"Yeah but they..." were born that way? o was Colin, apparently. "I dunno... It just seems odd."

[Brigid Plunder]

"Don't get me wrong, I know it's not that easy to get used to."

[Kay Haddock]

"It's not, no..."

[Brigid Plunder]

"But it also means that you or Theresa aren't weird for digging Colin, right?"

[Kay Haddock]

"But... I mean he's a mutant. That's... different, right?"

[Brigid Plunder]

"People are people, Kay."

[Kay Haddock]

"But we're, like, still humans and they're... all lizard or something..."

[Brigid Plunder]

"Okay, just... stop. I don't want to be mean here, and I don't expect you to wrap your head around this right away."

"I hoped talking about it a little would make you feel better, but I do get that it's hard to swallow."

[Kay Haddock]

"Okay?" she says, sounding a little crestfallen though she's not entirely sure why herself.

[Brigid Plunder]

"I'm sorry. It's just... I don't know how I can explain it right now without feeling even weirder."

[Kay Haddock]

"Well, either way they don't know anything about our world, right, so it doesn't matter anyway."

[Brigid Plunder]

"Most of them don't, yeah. There's been superheroes and crazy stuff that's come here, so they do know there's something outside, but for the most part they don't care as long as they're left alone."

[Kay Haddock]

"Well you're close to escaping now, so... hang in there?"

[Brigid Plunder]

"Pretty much. As long as I don't go crazy from boredom over the summer."

[Kay Haddock]

"It's... not really been much different here the last couple days."

[Brigid Plunder]

"That's where we come back to you finding the people that are still there, huh?"

[Kay Haddock]

"Well yeah... But it's still pretty quiet here."

[Brigid Plunder]

"So why don't you make some noise?" She smiled.

[Kay Haddock]

"Yeah, I'll get right on that." she chuckles.

[Brigid Plunder]

"Hey, you're the one here that's a siren," she laughed.

[Kay Haddock]

"Uh-huh. Whatever you say, Jane of the Jungle." she chuckles.
