"I'm not trying to be difficult, Mum. In the last twenty-four hours, Mom nearly died trying to perform a ritual to live forever, which is a heaping helping of irony, but I digress. I've been up to my elbows in blood and breakfast foods and spoken to Mom's patron goddess one-on-one. I'm a little out of my depth." Thoughts were flowing into one another like a log jam, so she was probably playing it straight right now.

[Nailah Weaver]

"And that's why I'd rather told you about this some other time. This is all a bit much."

[Miranda Weaver]

"A bit much for you or a bit much for me? I'm not a delicate flower, Mom."

[Nailah Weaver]

"No, but this could have waited. It won't change anything for a long time."

[Miranda Weaver]

"So, what? Were you just going to wait until I started wondering why you weren't getting any older?"

[Nailah Weaver]

"No, but...." Nailah frowns, more at herself than anything really. "I thought it might go over better with you if we've had a couple years to show you that we care about you. That I care about you. And that I'm not doing this to outlive or avoid you."

[Miranda Weaver]

"So, Miranda, we realize you're struggling with college, and that you think you have our relationship well in hand, but we just wanted to tell you that your mother made herself immortal a couple of years back and we didn't tell you because... goddess, I don't even know how you thought you'd start that conversation. I can't even fathom futures where that would have ended well." She was standing now.

[Nailah Weaver]

"Because as you grow older your perspective changes. You can tell a young adult things you couldn't tell a teenager and you can tell a teenager things you couldn't tell a little kid. You're mature for your age most of the time, but right now you're proving that you are just a teenager still."

[Samantha McManus]

"I think it's best that we be open with each other whenever we can."

[Miranda Weaver]

"Maybe you should talk with your eternal partner about that." She pointed at Nailah, before saying "Blue Monkey Shuttlecock" as she spun on her heel and headed for the door. Even Sam might catch the dissonance that action set up.

[Nailah Weaver]

"Hey, don't you---aah!" she interrupts herself when Miranda jukes her precognition, making her wince. She grabs her forehead with one hand as she tries to calm the sudden, throbbing headache that comes with trying to bring herself back in synch with her precognition.

"...I'll admit that could have gone better."

[Nailah Weaver]

"I'll say..." she grouses, almost cutting Sam off due to mistiming her response. She's still holding her head and grimacing, talking very slow and deliberately now. "I'm just not very good at this. Being a parent, I mean."

"You didn't have as long to get used to it as most people."

[Nailah Weaver]

"You'd think me of all people would have more time to prepare for these kind of things."

[Samantha McManus]

"But she's your blind spot."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Yes, as she just demonstrated." she sighs.

[Samantha McManus]

"Do you want me to talk to her? Once she's calmed down?"

[Nailah Weaver]

"Might go over better without me, yeah."

[Samantha McManus]

"I just don't want you to feel like you can't be part of her life, aye love?"

[Nailah Weaver]

"Of course not. She's a teenager, I'm stubborn in my ways and not used to this. There'll be some friction." she sighs.

[Samantha McManus]

"And it'll get better."

[Nailah Weaver]

"I'm sure it will." she tries an optimistic smile.

[Samantha McManus]

"This isn't just a pre-cognitive humoring me?"

[Nailah Weaver]

"I couldn't tell even if I wanted to. This one is all pure optimism."
