Build a casket for my tears

Characters staying in an English hotel are suddenly trapped there, subject to both its mysteries and the whims of its unusual staff. Sci-fi/horror/mystery. Random weirdness is essential.

Build a casket for my tears

Samantha unlocked the room, leaving the door open for Nailah as she went in and turned on the lights.

She seemed reluctant to touch... anything... with the hand that has blood on it as she went to find her robe.

"I... I can wait outside if you'd prefer." she says, stopping just inside the door.

"Just don't want to make you uncomfortable." she says, closing the door and doing her best to blend into the room in the most inoffensive way possible. For a moment she thinks it's uncanny how... easily she does it and how familiar it feels and then immediately feels ashamed about it.

"Too late for that," she mumbled.

"...but I'm going to put myself right."

Her robe over her arm, she started towards the bathroom.

She shut the door behind her, and the water began to run soon after.

It covered the sound of sobbing.

Mostly.

Just keep it together. It's not your fault. Are you sure? It might. It's this place. God knows you feel like crying. Just... don't. It only... only... the train of thoughts ends before it can really get anywhere but she shudders anyway, wrapping her arms around herself.

Eventually the water stopped. There was the sound of a blow-drier after that, and faint noises of fussing.

And then an awkward pause, with just breathing near the closed door.

All the while, the wolves on the walls kept their quiet vigil.

"...yes," came the sheepish answer, muffled by the door.

The knob turned and it swung open. She'd done her hair up. It seemed such a silly thing when she was still in her robe, but she'd felt the need. She hurried across the room for the screen near the dresser so she could get changed.

Now it was Nailah's turn to blush and turn her back.

"Just tell me when you're done..."

Samantha for her part certainly wasn't straying from behind the screen, as she hastily dressed. Finally she let out a breath and stepped out, fully clad.

"I'm... sorry to make you wait."

"Don't. I understand." Really? Because you could stand to clean yourself up too...

"Now will you talk to me please?"

"I don't know what this is, but I'm scared. And not just because of what happened here. I was when I came here, I was running from something. But now I don't remember... Only calling your name, I do remember that, even if I don't know why or even who you are."

The question was out of left-field almost, and broke her from her distracted remembrance of bloody hands.

"It... it almost scares me that it does."

Blood. Screams. Panic. No... that had come after the running, hadn't it? Then why was she here?

"I... I don't know." she wrings her hands. Yes you do. She blinks and for the first time really notices the thin stripe of lighter skin on her finger, staring at it like her finger just fell off.
