The Bloodbath

The 24 tributes stand on their podiums, eyeing each other warily. Weapons and supplies are gathered in the Cornucopia. The horn sounds! The Hunger Games have begun!

Roland...immediately breaks for the woods. He has thousands of years of experience, he doesn't need a weapon to survive this one.

Ryan, using his SHIELD training, knows that he's more prepared than your average participant. Taking to the air, he rockets past people to get to the cornucopia before anyone else. Grabbing some supplies, he tosses a series of grenades behind him. The explosions take out Nailah, Alex and Jen, all caught unawares. Ryan picks up the first three kills of the tournament.

Will and Trev, on the other hand, decide to work together in terms of friendship. In the cornucopia, Will grabs a can of fishing bait while Trev gets the appropriate poles and equipment. They're not going to starve, dang it!

If you teach a man to fish, they may survive for longer, but that's certainly less efficient than just getting a fish for free. Daniel rushes by Will and Trev and gathers up a bunch of food. I mean, it's only going to last a week, who wants to spend time fishing?

John, seeing his mentor and weapons expert darting for the woods, follows Roland's lead and buggers out of there before he can get caught in Ryan's explosions.

Kevin scampers straight for the weapons. Disappointed not to find a sword, he at least looks for the pointiest thing possible--in his case, a big spear.

Victoria can't be bothered to mess with the peasants inside the Cornucopia, and decides to stroll off into the woods, no doubt to prepare a ritual to kill everyone.

Haley also runs away from the Cornucopia. She's fucking scared, alright?

Alison is right on their tails, after seeing the OTHER big cat bite it in Ryan's explosion. No need to stick around.

Mira skips into the forest. This will be fun!

Sara agrees with Will that fishing might be a good idea, but things baits and poles are dumb. She grabs a big-ass trident. All beware Sara, Queen of the Seas.

Theresa decides discretion is the better part of valor, and stealth is the better part of discretion. Thus, she valiantly runs into the woods.

Kay doesn't need no fishing supplies! She's been here before, back in Issue 11. She's just headed for the woods again.

Dee sees Alison heading for the hills and, despite being on different teams, follows her.

ASHLIE IS on Dee's team, and decides to follow the two of them. Perhaps an alliance is being formed.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts, Nick, Sam and Bear square off in a Xaviers Standoff, Bear toting a large rock. She throws it expertly towards Sam, who steps out of the way....only for it to hit her in the head from behind thanks to Nick's telekenesis, taking her out. The rock continues back and brains Bear as well, as Nick picks up HIS first two kills of the contest.

Steph heads into the weapons area and grabs a spear. Spears are good.

Miranda, with both of her parents biting it in the opening segment, gets the heck out of there.

Deaths: Nailah, Alex, Jen, Sam, Bear. Congratulations, you didn't get out of the opening five minutes

Who can kill people on an empty stomach? Fishing is the way to go here. Clearly, Trev and I have the best strategy, bar none.

DAY ONE

John's good looks and wonderful work with his tail has gotten him the attention of a sponsor! The package of explosives he received should definitely come in handy...

Theresa and Steph face off in a clearing, staring each other down. "You know what happens to a wolf when she's struck by lightning?" Theresa asks. There's no need for Steph to answer, as the scent of singed fur heads through the air.

Victoria is headed for higher ground. Queens move upwards.

Did you remember that Altamira worked in the infirmary before she became the Phoenix? Well, someone did, because an anonymous sponsor gave her a bunch of medical supplies! Go Mira!

Miranda wanders around a clearing. Trev sneaks up on her....closer....closer....closer....
...but then he steps on a twig, Miranda hears it, and is able to escape, scot-free. Way to go, Trev.

Will, meanwhile, has ditched his fishing buddy and stolen Sara's trident. He stalks his prey, getting closer and closer...and catches a fish. Well done, Will.

Daniel, grumbling that he's allergic to the food he took from the Cornucopia, fishes. He should have grabbed a weapon.

Nick, Sara and Kay get into a shouting match. Nick and Sara shove one another, arguing over who should be in the lead, while Kay begs them to work together. Meanwhile, in the bushes behind them, Roland leads Haley and ASHLIE ever closer...and then they leap out and attack!

Unfortunatley, Sara choose that moment to lash out a column of rock at Nick, and it smashes Roland's skull in. The momentary shock panics Haley, and Nick is able to overwhelm her in a teep-v.-teep battle. ASHLIE chases Kay towards a cliff, and the both jump over...into a river. Kay swims away, but ASHLIE shorts out. The ambush has failed miserably.

Ryan, meanwhile..discovers a river. Fresh water will help keep him focused throughout the fight, but were those robot parts floating down stream? Weird river.

Kevin, brandishing his spear, jumps out and attacks Alison. Allison, however, isn't going to be taken down by a swordsman without a sword, and she manages to escape without too much trouble.

Dee picks flowers. She is bored.

Current status!

Team Stanton, Team "Law and Magicks", Team Phoenix, Team Troubled High School Relationship, and Team Warcraft are still doing quite well.

Team Pagan Goddesses and Team Don't Stand So Close To Me are both out entirely. Way to go. Three professors out at one time.

Nick, meanwhile, may have lost his partner Alex in about 30 seconds, but he's looking to take down his opponents single handily--he's been part of five kills already!

NIGHT ONE

Sara can't sleep. She looks up at the night sky, and complains about being brought back in to Xavier's crazy lifestyle.

Dee can sleep. She's freaking exhausted.

Daniel ponders if he's going insane, but realizes that that wouldn't be all that different from his pre-Hunger Games state.

Theresa tries to start a fire. Having never been a boy scout, she is not prepared, and sucks at it.

The sound of lightforce smashing against itself can be heard throughout the forest, as Kevin and Ryan smash into one another. After a long, protracted battle, Kevin gets the upper hand and knocks Ryan to the ground....but doesn't go for the killing blow. "Us lightforce users have to stick together," he tells Ryan. Ryan just nods, taking his momentary reprieve.

Miranda thinks about home, and wonders if she left the gas on.

Will is awoken by nightmares. What if...what if he couldn't catch any fish?!

Kay, scratched up and bleeding from her fall into the river, lets Trev apply bandages and things. Trev's the priest, after all; he's used to healing things.

Alison DOES manage to successfully start a fire, because she's all practical and shit. John tries to come and sit by it, but she hits him over the head with a stick until he leaves. Altamira is attracted by the flames, but Alison hits HER over the head with a stick until she leaves. Finally, her teammate Victoria comes to sit by the fire...but Alison goes for the stick again, and Victoria scampers off. Alison doesn't need no lousy teammates.

Nick looks at the night sky, writing out some awesome song lyrics in his head.

Deaths: None! Congratulations, you all survived the night

Day 2

This time, it's Ryan's turn just to pick flowers. What is he up to? Is it some sort of clever plan, or are there only so many random one-person events in the system?

Dee tries to sleep through the entire day. It has become patently obvious she doesn't give a flying flip about the whole Hunger Games thing.

Nick has been trying to up his kill count, and has been stalking Victoria all day. Victoria, however, has figured this out, and is leading Nick on a merry chase, tiring him out.

Kevin meanwhile is practicing awesome kung-fu moves with his light force. This explains why he doesn't notice when Allison sneaks up and steals his spear.

Miranda and Theresa face off in a clearing, in the Battle For Kay, apparently. The two clash, with Miranda staying a step ahead of Theresa--the benefit of knowing where your opponents strikes will be before they hit. She pulls her sword from the Astral...and cuts Theresa's head clean off! Cold, Miranda.

John has built a shack. He's not going to be cold another night. He's a homeowner!

Mira also picks flowers, but not the same flowers Ryan was picking. That would be weird.

Will and Daniel, standing atop the edge of a cliff, engage in an epic knife-fight battle. Parry! Thrust! Slash! Daniel dodges out of the way of one of Will's thrusts, and tries to counter with a knife to the gut. Will falls down-but catches the lunging Daniel, and ends up tossing him off the cliff! That's GOTTA hurt.

Sara, meanwhile, is having a bad day. Kay, of all people, has just beaten her in combat. Sara, grousing, tells Kay to finish it, but she refuses. She can't bring herself to finish her off!

Four teams remain fully intact: Team Stanton, Team Law and Magicks, Team Phoenix and Team High School Relationship. The Stantons and the High Schoolers are the only teams where both members have gotten kills, thus pulling their own weight.

Theresa becomes the first casualty who had a kill to her name--all the other dead didn't do a thing. Daniel's death ends Daniel and Jennifer's team entirely.

Nick is still hardcore.

Night Two

Fishing buddies Will and Trev come across Kay and Nick asleep.
"Take 'em out!" Will whispers.
"No, YOU take 'em out!" Trev counters
"I got Daniel! It's your turn!" Will hisses
"You're, like, invulnerable, YOU do it," Trev responds.
"Come on man, be cool!"
"You first!"
"No, you!"
"No, you!"
Eventually, the two play rock-paper-scissors, and Trev sneaks up to the two sleeping figures. He looks at Kay, looks at Nick--and, with a scream, takes Nick out. Kay wakes up and runs away before she's next.

Dee is awoken by nightmares, and continues to avoid interacting with anyone else.

Alison and Miranda are smarter than Kay and Nick. They decide to sleep in shifts, and thus survive the night.

Mira's unknown sponsor returns! In addition to more medical supplies, Mira now has some explosives. Ho ho ho.

Tonight, Kevin's the one defending his fire from people wanting to warm up. One by one, Ryan, Sara and Victoria try to get warm by it, but Kevin scares them all off. He must still be annoyed Allison stole his spear.

John, meanwhile, stays up all night in his Explosive Shack.

DAY THREE

Parallel fight scenes greet the morning! John and Will spar at the bottom of a cliff, while Victoria and Kevin duel atop it!

Will's resilient, but spongy, and John is stronger. Will yields, holding up one hand to signify that he's done. John hesitates...and then nods, sparing Will's life.

Victoria HAS no such qualms, shoving Kevin off the cliff, where he splatters on the rocks below.

Alison sees John's shack. It's a lame shack, she thinks, so she sets about constructing her OWN shack.

Trev and Dee square off, with Trev being the first person Dee has seen in days. They feint, parry, and circle one another...
...and then both burst into flames as Mira snaps her fingers. "Honestly..." she grumbles, walking past the charred remains.

Miranda's hardcore decapitation got her the attention of a sponsor! Medical supplies for her!

Ryan's day one explosive work got HIM the attention of a sponsor, and he gets...more explosives! More dakka.

Kay finds a cave, which is fitting, because they sound really similar, right?

Sara tries to sleep through the entire day. She's tired, dang it.

We're getting down to brass tacks. Only six teams have anyone remaining, and three of them are down to one member each. Ryan's been going it alone almost the whole time, as has John, to very solid results. Mira is newly separated. Team Stanton, Team Magic and Law and Team High School Romance still remain intact.

With Nick out of the picture, the leader in kills among the LIVING becomes a tie between Sara, Ryan and Kay. One of these things is not like the others.
