Name: Winifred Winters
Age: 17
Power: Winn is a powerful source of cosmic energy. She naturally generates large amounts of the power that she contains in her puny mortal frame. Unfortunately, a mere human was not meant to wield such powers and the energy is slowly burning her out. Without intervention, she has about a year before her corporeal form is completely overwhelmed and she becomes part of the background radiation of the cosmos.
Incidentally, it would not be a great idea to be nearby when this happens.
At the moment, Winn’s only ability (besides slowly being overwhelmed by cosmic energy) is that her skin emits a constant soft glow. With some concentration she can make the glow a bit brighter.
She also has natural pink hair. It has nothing to do with her abilities. It just runs in the family.
Description: Winn is 5’ 9” with an athletic build from several years of “track and field”. Which is what she calls “running from various authorities”. She has pink hair that she styles in a mohawk and she likes to dress in punk-rock fashions. She may or may not have tattoos and/or illicit piercings. Buy a girl a drink first, sheesh.
History: Winn has discipline problems. They started when her mother, a tabloid journalist and all around terrible human being, named her ‘Winifred’, something that Winn has never forgiven her for doing. The discipline problems were exacerbated by general poor parenting, neglect, and constant moving throughout the country pursuing one conspiracy theory or another. In fact, to this day Winn considers the old Jeep they traveled in to be more of a home than any place they ever stayed.
Winn started stealing, fighting, and dressing in leather and torn denim in order to get attention. It didn’t work, but after awhile Winn didn’t remember why she had started. By the time she was 16, she had been arrested four times in three different states and had thoroughly committed to being a teenage terror.
That’s when she started glowing. At first, it was nothing but a minor annoyance that made it difficult to sleep at night, but when Winn was starting to adjust to becoming to a human nightlight, fate decided to throw her a curveball. After days of nausea and headaches, Winn collapsed in an alley while smoking a cigarette with some local street toughs. She was taken to the hospital where the test results managed to confuse the hell out of the doctors.
It was then that X-Corp stepped in. They found that the energy that Winn was generating was permanently damaging her body and, at this point, keeping her alive as well. They told her and her mother that unless a solution was found soon, the prognosis did not look good.
It was decided while X-Corp researched possible treatment options, that she would attend XI for as long as she is stable. There is some hope that by learning to control and harness her abilities to a greater extent, that she might be able to extend her life at least a little longer. Of course, Winn isn’t happy about any of this, but hey, what has ever gone wrong with placing an angry mutant with a criminal past and a death sentence at XI?
