Sept 28: This Thread Is Full Of Spiders

Ryan leapt from the ledge... and let himself hurl unpowered through the air, his arms tracking his aim. When he had a clear shot, he suddenly lit up like a spotlight, wings blazing into existence behind him and power coursing down from his hands at Rin. "I've got this one, John, let the big shot have a taste of your big stick. She looks like she's seen her share of them." He'd known that something was off about this woman since they met at the Hellfire Club mixer, and now he was going to help take care of her. Loose end: tied.

He kept part of his attention toward the altar, waiting to see Mizuki's bag opened. Five on four will be a little better than four on four...

Rin falls for the feint hook, line and sinker. Her head whips around as Ryan lights up but it's too late and his blast hits her square in the chest and sends her sprawling on the cavern floor, leaving the path to the altar open for John.

Melissa clears the distance to the altar with one power-infused leap, tackling the cultist Noriko to the ground. The woman must be tougher than she looks though since she throws a punch at Melissa's jaw despite just having the wind knocked out of her. Her other hand closes around Melissa's upper arm with surprising strength.

Will manages to get to the altar in all the confusion. Mizuki is still being held down by the third cultist, Aiko, while Yui produces a thin, nasty-looking dagger, preparing to thrust it downward into the girl fwith an overhead stab.

Melissa rocks with the blow, shaking her head briefly as if she's clearing it. Her hand locks around Noriko's upper arm as well, immobilizing that side for both of them while she goes for a throat punch with her free hand.

Will dove across Mizuki to take the dagger blow.

He ALSO tried to kick Yui away, but goal one was not let Zuki get stabbed.

John let out an angry roar as he charged Yui, aiming to knock her away from the altar.

Ryan looked after John, and given that 'sacrifices not being sacrificed' was the idea, he threw himself in low with a kick at Yui's legs, letting John drive her back toward the kick. Note to self... coming in behind John completely sucks tactically. He could feel his power just surging in him to be used, and he didn't dare go with that instinct with John so close to the line of fire.

Noriko tries to block the attack but she's just not a very good combatant. She's strong but Melissa's blow to the throat staggers her and has her choking for air.

Meanwhile Rin slowly picks herself up from where she'd been thrown by Ryan's blast.

Will manages to throw himself across Mizuki, shielding her, which entices Aiko to let go of the girl in order to back away.

Yui tries to thrust down the dagger but only manages to sink it into Will. It cuts through his shoulder almost effortlessly but is stopped when Ryan and John attack her. Her legs are swept out from under her and John's frame slams into her before she can brace herself. As he tackles her to the ground something pushes into his shoulder and, to his surprise, sinks right through his Darkforce armor to bite into his shoulder. When she hits the ground though her dagger is knocked out of her hand before she can stab John with it again, clattering along the cave floor and into the shadows.

John grunted and hissed with pained surprise as the dagger struck. He held Onihasaiki out at her.

"Show's over you eight-legged bitch."

Given a second of breathing room, Will tried to check Mizuki's status--was she awake? Drugged? Hurt in some way?

Ryan, meanwhile, was feeling that same righteous loathing he felt before in Limbo when he'd faced down the demons there. I don't know what you are... but I'm not complaining... Regaining his feet, he aimed another rush of light at Rin, keeping half an eye on John and Yui to see when he'd have a shot at her without John being in the way.

"On the contrary. The party is just getting started." Yui grins maniacally. At the same time Aiko, who had retreated from the altar, triumphantly holds up the dagger that went clattering across the cavern floor. "I have it, Mistress!" she shouts excitedly before holding the bloodied dagger up into the air with both hands. "Jorōgumo Hakkotsukisai samon!" Yui's grin grows even wider somehow and her limbs look like they're stretching slightly as the spider-demon pushes herself further into this world. "I suppose I'll just have to take the rest of your blood then." she sneers and leaps at John, trying to close in fast enough to keep John from swinging his weapon but leaving herself wide open in the process.

Rin barely manages to pull herself to her feet before another burst of light slams her into the cave wall again. She's still up, partially because the wall is propping her up, but she clearly seems to be the strongest of the cultists.

Noriko, on the other hand, is knocked out by Melissa's punch.

Mizuki seems dazed but otherwise alright.

Melissa switches her telepathy back on, Aiko's shouting attracting her attention. A telepathic slam follows the adjustment in her attention, trying to disrupt Aiko's attention since she doesn't know if the ritual's complete yet or not.

John was indeed too slow to use the club to strike, blocking with it instead. If successful, he would then push back hard.

Aiko staggers from the telepathic attack, but manages to pull herself together enough to hurl the dagger at Melissa. Apparently she doesn't need it anymore.

Yui lands on John's huge frame and even though the club is pressing against her stomach still manages to grab on to John's face. Her fingers dig into his armor as she flips herself up and over him to get away from his weapon.

The shimmering of Melissa's telekinesis switched back on as the knife came in. Despite that, Melissa winced in pain as the knife sliced through her shoulder, letting the knife sail on past her. The shimmering of her body gathered over the injury, hiding it from view. "I owe you for that one," she growled as she ran across the intervening space like a freight train late for it's next stop in Aiko-ville. Just before impact, she lowered her good shoulder.

Opening the sack is simple enough, but Mizuki looks groggy and isn't being particularly cooperative in being freed.

Aiko didn't expect immediate retaliation and Melissa's shoulder rams her right in the stomach before she's slammed into the wall and collapses against Melissa.

Yui is grazed by the icy blast but seems to be dealing with it relatively well. Her hands seem to have gotten the worst of it, having been right next to John's face. Still, she completes her flip and, cradling her hands, rams her elbow into John's back. For the fact that she looks rather spindly she hits surprisingly hard, sending John sprawling.

Mizuki, fortunatley, was small, so Will hoisted her over his shoulder and tried to make a break for the exit.

Melissa grabs the slumping Aiko and tosses her at Yui, hoping to foul her up long enough for John to retrieve his weapon.

Yui catches Aiko with some effort but then tosses her aside like a sack of bricks. Still, it gives John the chance to scramble for his weapon. No one seems to be trying to stop Will with Yui occupied and the other cultists either unconscious or squaring off with Ryan.

John scooped up Onihasaiki and rose to his feet. He then rushed Yui, swinging the club at her midsection.

Yui has just about enough time to turn towards John before the club slams into her and sends her flying through the cavern. She hits the stone wall with enough force to cause a nasty crunching sound and she collapses to the floor in a heap. For a moment everything is quiet, only a bit of dust settling before a loud groan forces it's way out of Yui's throat and she shakily pushes her upper body up with her arms. "That... really hurt!" she glares at John and the crunching sound from earlier gets some company from a wet tearing and wrenching noise. Yui's lower body kind of slowly explodes outward as her torso rises up, reaching eye-level with John and continuing on as an impossibly huge spider body emerges from what used to be Yui's abdomen, having replaced her entire lower body.

She let's out a wailing scream and lunges at John, aiming to tackle and pin him to the ground with her bulbous spider-abdomen.

John dropped Onihasaiki and caught it with his tail. He them planted his feet for the impact and prepared to attempt to catch and flip Yui.

John manages to kind of catch Yui just from the fact that she slams into him but flipping her huge spider body over is out of the question. With Melissa's help the two manage to kind of throw her off to the side, but with 7 more legs she manages to land on at least a couple of them. Two of the more forward facing ones try to stab at John while she tries to slam her chitinous spider-butt into Melissa.

The slam catches Melissa and sends her flying across the room to slam into the wall. She grunts and pulls herself back to her feet. Her hand curls around a stone and she throws it at Yui.

John tossed the club up to his right arm and used it to strike at one of the legs as he did his best to evade.

Yui tries to block the stone with one arm, which works in the sense that it hits her arm instead of her face. It still produces a nasty cracking sound. She let's out a scream that only grows shriller when John's weapon slams into her leg and crushes it at one of the joints. She throws herself on top of John in anger, trying to grab a hold of him with her good arm and one of her spider legs. As she does her mouth opens wider than it has any right to, revealing black chitin inside just before she bites down on John's shoulder, Darkforce armor slowly giving in as her teeth/mandibles sink in.

John cried out as Yui bit down.

"Bad... move..." he growled, dropping the club so he could better claw at her. He then wrapped the end of his tail around the club and began awkwardly slamming it against the demon spider.

Damn damn damn... The other cultists could wait. They weren't, for example, turning into giant spiders and trying to eat him. He threw a kick at his opponent's head, and turned that motion into a flight arc that took him in a wide circle around John. "You are an abomination," he growled, lining up his shot. "You should have been put down a long time ago... I'm just glad I get to help do it!" He surged forward, his hand pulsing with power, and grabbed onto the back of her head, having the presence of mind to wait for his power to make her slacken or scream before he tried yanking her head back.

The club hits Yui at an awkward angle and while it seems to be leaving what almost seems like burn-marks it doesn't seem to only be doing superficial damage from lack of enough force behind it. Thankfully Melissa distracts the giant spider-woman for long enough that Ryan can swoop in unimpeded. She does indeed let out a scream when Ryan's glowing hand touches her head. She throws John backwards while bucking and flailing in an attempt to grab or dislodge Ryan from her back. Ryan feels his power surging through him and disappearing into Yui like a black hole. It seems to be hurting her but it also begins to tug at Ryan's own life-force as it's swept along from acting as a conduit for something greater.

There was a part of Ryan, a part of him that he didn't understand yet, that seemed fine with that. He could bleed himself dry, he could let himself slip into nothing and it would destroy this creature, bind it away from this world, rid the universe of its presence. That strange part of himself found that good, found that right, anything needed to be done, so long as this abomination was driven from the world. The rest of his mind, though...

He shuddered as he focused on reality, on the here and now, on every reason he had to not pull a stunt like that. Better ways... always better ways... He yanked his hand back, then drove the heel of his palm into the back of the head once, twice, three times, then boosted back and away, slashing one luminous wingtip at the monster's back. Get its attention... make the opening the others need...

John tumbled once before catching his claws on the ground and quickly stopping in a crouch, leaving furrows in the rock. The bite burned and a numbing sensation spread outward. Whether poison or his imagination, it had to wait a little longer. He took up the club and charged back into the fray with a mighty swing.

Yui staggers around from Ryan's blows and suddenly one of her legs doesn't provide the support she thought it would when Melissa's kick snaps the joint in a direction it was not meant to be bent. She doesn't fall, but it does throw her off-balance enough to sink right into John's swing. The club slams into her shoulder with a loud crunch and throws her entire frame to the side. She scrambles to stay upright, veering off to the side to keep her body underneath her reeling torso...
