The Blackwater Estuary National Nature Reserve was struck by a severe storm this afternoon, forcing the early closure of the publicly accessible portions of the reserve. The thunderstorm, which lashed the area for over two hours, eventually subsided prior to dusk but the reserve was not reopened to the public. The reserve will resume normal hours tomorrow. Some meteorologists took opportunity to remind us that, as the global climate continues to change, unusual and unexpected severe weather will become more common.
