[Issue 11] Hunting the Hunter

Scenes taking place outside of London or Muir, but still on the Islands.

[Issue 11] Hunting the Hunter

Postby Narrator » Tue Jan 15, 2013 3:00 pm

Ryan's power could see a lifeforce further up the creek, holding still for the moment.

There was a fair amount of ground to cover, and it could be assured that Kraven hadn't been idle...

"He's there," Ryan said darkly. He gave a brief judgement of the distance, then looked around. "You can be sure he's ready, probably got traps set up now."

"Lovely." Rachel said, reaching out with her power to see if anyone was between them and Kraven, and if there wasn't, to try to get into Kraven's mind.

"Yeah, I've got another idea," Ryan said. "Keep your eyes open as you head up that way... I'm going to take a really wide circle around and come in behind him to push him into his own traps."

Renko simply followed his teammates cautiously his abilities not particularly attuned for tracking Kraven or for detecting the traps.

"Of course he trapped the area," Renko muttered to himself.

Steph stalked through the undergrowth quietly, her eyes darting around suspiciously, her nose sniffing the air.

Ryan, as he'd indicated, took to the air, flying in a wide loop to get around without Kraven without being seen, blatantly taking his time and taking advantage of being able to see Kraven without line of sight.

Kraven's scent was all through the area, almost taunting. There were many signs of passage, some too heavy to have been Kraven, and bore other scents.

Rachel would find Kraven's mind slippery and hard to grip. He seemed to be in some sort of trance state that made his thoughts strange to her.

Ryan could see that Kraven had retreated to a well-defensible point up in the cliffs, with a bit of cover overhead.

Rachel decided to ignore his thoughts, and tried to get a grip on his breathing, hoping that he'd have less control over his autonomic processes.

Ryan considered his options, then set up a dive to hook around into an opening in the trees, not wanting to crash through branches, but also not wanting to give Kraven a chance to spot him before he could open fire at him.

Kraven was crouched behind a rock formation, his breathing even. If he noticed Rachel creeping into that he gave no indication, but then again she hadn't tried to alter it yet.

There was a brief panic in Kraven's mind as his breath caught in his throat, but the trance state he was in roared back over the mindlink, painfully, as his breathing reasserted itself.

Ryan could see some brief movement where Kraven was holed up, followed by a faint electronic beep.

And that was when a loud boom sounded from the cliff-side near the others, triggering a landslide heading their way...

"Oh crap," Renko said.

Can't run might hit a trap.

His gauntlets began glowing as tried to do what he could to age away the part of the landslide most likely to bury them.

Steph growled, and moved with purpose, though not recklessly, away from the slide, keeping enough of her more rational side in control to realize that traps were probably set all over the place, waiting for someone to panic.

Ryan didn't waste any more time, diving straight at Kraven and letting loose with a blast of energy at him, not willing to give him another chance to set off a trap on his friends... and doing his best to keep the darker urges in check as he did.

Kraven gave a mad laugh, getting clipped in the shoulder before ducking behind the rock formation.

"Only you are brave enough, is that it?" He called after Ryan.

Renko's power managed to break up the larger rocks, which made it easier for Nick to divert the landslide.

The rockslide mitigated, Steph clambered up the hill with impressive speed as Ryan dove and distracted (hopefully) Kraven. She launched herself at him, aiming to incapacitate rather than land a lethal blow with her fangs or claws.

"I did not promise you a shooting gallery, my bird of prey," he said with a manic grin just before Steph slammed into his back.

"It would make it no fun, yes?" He grunted as he struggled with Steph, aiming to fling her at Ryan.

Renko's face became a mask as hi Kraven threw Stephanie. He decided to take action by trying to create a bubble of slowed time around Kraven to make the villain an easier target for his teammates.

All of Steph's close to 250 pounds bowled into Ryan as gracefully as one can possibly manage getting thrown into someone--which isn't saying a whole lot, but it certainly could have hurt worse.

Between Renko slowing him down and Rachel affecting his reflexes, Craven isn't able to fully dodge Ryan's strike, which hit hims square in the leg.

He less than gracefully goes into a tumble, his reaction quickening as he crosses the edge of Renko's bubble just as the net ball sprawls partly over him. With a snarl he grips at it and whips it at Ryan's legs, aiming to trip the angel up with the weights.

With a grunt of effort Renko tried to catch the moving form of Kraven in another time bubble. The other bubble broke apart as he created another bubble of slowed time.

"Didn't think he could move so bloody quickly," Renko said to himself.
