I13DT - Wood you, could you...

[Samantha McManus]

Sam is making her way through Firtree wood, dressed in her business attire. Periodically she checks the GPS on her phone to make certain she's approaching the proper location.

[Narrator]

Even this close to winter the woods are still dense and the ground is covered in dead leaves the crunch under Sam's feet. As she gets closer to the coordinates she'd spot a figure in a tree in the distance.

[Samantha McManus]

She frowns, narrowing her eyes upon spotting it.

No. She doesn't get to do this to me.

She starts to approach.

[Narrator]

As Sam gets closer it almost seems like the figure is somehow fixed to the tree and appears to be moving faintly. The figure also definitely still has a mental presence and is very much alive, if not particularly lucid.

Who'd you ruin now?

She continues on foot, even though it would be faster to fly.

[Narrator]

As she gets closer she'd notice that the woman hanging on the tree is extremely pale, which, judging by the deep cuts in both her thighs and the blood soaking the forest floor underneath her is from massive blood-loss. The snow-white hair, on the other hand, appears to have been bleached. Sam wouldn't recognize the woman's face, though she obviously looks rather familiar anyway.

[Samantha McManus]

She dials her phone.

"I need medevac. The location I already told you about. Severe blood loss. It's pretty deep in, we might need a helicopter."

[Narrator]

"Affirmative. Heli is on the way." the dispatcher tells her.

And at the sound of Sam talking the woman's eyes flutter open. and she looks at Sam. "You came for me... Just like she said you would..." she says weakly and with a lot of awe in her voice.

[Samantha McManus]

"I know what she's capable of."

[Narrator]

"Are you going to take me away now?" she asks with an almost enraptured smile on her face.

[Samantha McManus]

"We're going to get you safe. Help is on the way."

[Narrator]

"But... No... Aren't you here to take my spirit?" she mumbles, on the verge of passing out. Above them the sound of a helicopter approaches, it's blades whipping the tops of the trees around.

[Samantha McManus]

"I need you to hang on for me just a little longer."

[Narrator]

"Are those the ravens....?" she mutters before passing out. She's still alive though, if barely, when the paramedics lower a stretcher down through the trees.

[Samantha McManus]

She stands aside for the paramedics.

"Obviously keeping her alive is the first priority, but we're going to need evidence for the police once she's out of the woods."

[Narrator]

"They're on their way. We can stabilize her here but from the looks of it she'll need surgery. Unless you have any objections we're going to take her to Broomfield Hospital north of here." one of the paramedics says while the woman is being taken care of.

[Samantha McManus]

"None right now. This is the important bit."

[Narrator]

The paramedic nods and they airlift the woman out. After a while the police arrives, interviews Sam for a moment and calls in a forensics team from Scotland Yard that finds very little. There are no signs of a struggle, which suggests that the woman was probably cooperating.

"...and if you find out anything else, please let us know." the Scotland Yard inspector says and he almost looks as if he wants to berate her for not informing the police first, but then seem to relent. "I'd ask if you care for police protection, seeing how this woman is clearly obsessed with you, but I suppose they wouldn't do much good, would they?"

[Samantha McManus]

"I'm making as many arrangements as I reasonably can, but against a telepath like her it's hard to plan for every eventuality."

[Narrator]

"Honestly, this is beyond my department. She's not exactly making a secret out of her responsibility in these murders, but the amount of time she's evaded Interpol and Scotland Yard over the years is frankly embarrassing. All we can do is make sure we compile the evidence. I'm not so proud that I can't admit when something is out of my league."

[Samantha McManus]

"I'm not exactly pleased that we had her on a fantastic cocktail of sedatives and power inhibitors and she still managed to escape."

"Believe me, I get the frustration here viscerally."

[Narrator]

"Just keep us in the loop. Officially this is our investigation, but at this point no one is arguing too strenuously against the fact that we forward most of our investigations to you. What little there is of it."

[Samantha McManus]

"Anything concrete, it's yours. Only reason you weren't my first call is I had to verify the safety of the situation."

[Narrator]

"Well, I'll be headed to the hospital later, see if we can get a testimony. If you'd care to come along, your help would be appreciated."

[Samantha McManus]

"I'd be happy to."
