I13DT: The Shadow Over Thornhurst

Postby Narrator » Mon Sep 01, 2014 3:24 pm

It is already dark as the Blackbird lands on a hill overlooking the nearby small seaside town of Thornhurst, it's sprawling footprint a testament to more productive days. Clouds obscure much of the sky while a fog obscures the rest. It is good they have GPS, or they would never have been able to find anything in the fog covered, labyrinthine streets. Beyond all this, the Gothic nightmare of Ravenhill Hospital looms out of the fog from a distant hill like a hungry beast howling at the sky.

"Not the most welcoming town..." Sara shivers as she steps out of the plane and looks around.

Theresa moved a little bit away from the plane and started scanning the sky, looking for unusual weather patterns. "Definitely striking it off of my vacation list."

"Eyes open for anything moving, everyone."

Stan cautiously exited the blackbird with a slight stumble and a grunt.

"At this point, everything could be one of those robots, or a mind controlled victim."

He adjusted a small monitor, looking for signs of mechanical movement.

There are a few signs of mechanical movement, but nothing apparent that shouldn't be there. After a moment there is a brief indication of something mechanical moving quickly in and out of view.

Nash's goggles allow him to see a figure running down a street. Both he and Stan catch technologically-aided sight of the large animal shape in pursuit.

A bearded old man matching the photo of the town doctor materializes out of the fog, running desperately for the X-Men. Almost literally on his heels is a huge, black Great Dane with an unnatural malefic red gleam in its eyes. Doctor Karpov is too busy not collapsing to even cry for help.

Very localized wind howled around the edges of the Will-wall, hopefully slowing anything that tried to run around the sides. Theresa's brow furrowed a little in concentration.

Will wheezed, as the proverbial air was knocked out of him--not actual air, of course.

He stood firm, though.

"Don't just stand there yapping! Kill it before more come!" the panicked doctor demands.

The beast shakes off the effects of the collision and it forces its way through the wind more easily than any actual animal should. It quickly rounds the edge of the wall, mangled fake skin falling away from it. Two metal tentacles tipped with shining energy cutters snake out from its back and rise up like snakes prepared to strike.

One of the machine's bladed tendrils lashes at her as it is send sprawling. It immediately starts to get up, its lower jaw bent horribly to one side. It gives a metallic howl, but the injury is distorting it. No howls answer it.

Sara raise her arm to deflect the tendrils, wincing as they leave a bunch of superficial gashes in her rocky skin.

"You better have a very good explanation ready!" Sara tells the doctor, shifting her other arm into a long blade with which to strike at the creature.

Stan arrives, a little winded.

Taking out the portable electromagnet, he hands them off to the younger kids.

"Try not to damage it too much!" He says, turning to tend to Dr.Karpov.

The surprisingly agile creature almost leaps out of the strike but Sara manages to carve a gash in its side. It lands with a stumbling, a glowing blue fluid slowly dripping from the wound and crackling with electricity as it hits the ground.

"Don't be a fool, kill it and all the others," Dr. Karpov says. The old man seems unharmed, but nearly exhausted as the adrenaline one creates when chased by a giant black dog from robot hell wears off.

Theresa adjusts the wind, using it to pick up dust and grime from the road and drive it into the open gash, at least hoping to gum up the works a bit.

Nash throws what seems to be a piece of cord or rope at the creatures front legs. It will attempt to wrap around them and constrict if it hits.

The high-tech bola connects and beast's front legs are tightly bound. Theresa's filthy wind further compromises its balance, causing it to topple over with a clang and a perplexed yelp. It flails about and futilely attempts to bite itself free despite its ruined jaw.
