I13DT: Veterem Hominem Fugientem Cicius

[Narrator]

Karpov's trail leads to an intersection where the blood drops end dead center. However any confusion is short-lived, for a gunshot sounds somewhere down the right-hand passage.

[Will Stanton]

Will hurried to the right.

"Watch our backs, this could be a trap!" Will shouted, running.

[Theresa McMasters]

Theresa ground to a halt to follow Will's order, moving aside so that Sara could get past her.

[Sara Stanton]

"That can't be good..." she mumbles as she runs after Will.

[Narrator]

They reach an opening awash in blueish-white light just in time to see a golden flash and a form falling off a ring shaped ledge into a lake of roiling energy. There a second bang as the form hits, the closer distance resolving the sound into a crack of electricity and not a gunshot. On the other side of the ring from the team, a badly burned Yellow is aiming her glowing hand at Karpov. With no obvious bio-metal to call upon, the scientist is at her mercy.

[Will Stanton]

"Hold it! Both of you!"

[Narrator]

"Stay out of this!" Yellow calls back. Karpov uses the distraction to attempt to get past her to the exit, but she fires a heat beam through his leg and he falls with a scream of pain. She says something to him that they can't hear over the electricity.

[Sara Stanton]

"Whatever he has done, killing him isn't going to make it right!" Sara shouts as she slowly walks towards them.

[Will Stanton]

Will cautiously stayed back. "Come on, we can talk this over."

[Narrator]

"Non... it will not," she agrees, "It is only the first step." She aims her other palm at Sara. "Do not interfere. One more death on his behalf will not trouble my sleep any further."

[Sara Stanton]

"Then you're no better than he is."

[Narrator]

"I am merely what he has made me. No more. No less," she answers before sending a bolt into Karpov's head.

[Will Stanton]

Will, too late, dove to tackle her.

[Narrator]

She goes down, but not without getting a glowing hand on her chest first. "I will not be caged any longer," she threatens.

[Will Stanton]

Will grabbed at her hand, to try to stop whatever it was she was doing, following it up with a punch to the jaw.

[Narrator]

Will moves her hand just enough to send her beam into the wall.

"NO!" she screams furiously before Will's fist connects, knocking her out.

[Will Stanton]

"Alright, let's get her the hell out of here," Will sighed.

[Sara Stanton]

"Yeah, let's get everyone out and then we'll blow this place to kingdom come."

[Theresa McMasters]

Out in the hallway, Theresa was still standing guard. "Handled?" she asked.

[Sara Stanton]

"As much as it's going to right now." Sara says as they had out.

[Theresa McMasters]

"Good. Let's get out of here. I could use some fresh air."
