I13: Super Sekrit Lab Thread NO X-MEN ALLOWED

When the kids woke up, they were in a large white room. Someone had placed them on plain, white medical cots arranged into a single row and each of them had been dressed in orange jumpsuits with their last name and an identifying number sewn onto the front.

The room was large enough to walk around in comfortably. The walls seemed to be made of thick, white stone panels. There were no windows. At the "front" of the room was a single locked entrance made of thick steel. Next to the door was a large red button with the words "DO NOT PRESS" right next to it in yellow and black font.

Above the, an electronic billboard kept flashing the same words over and over again: "TEST # 00001: ESCAPE THE ROOM OF PAINFUL DEATH".

T-Bow sits up on the cot quickly looking around.

"My head.."

Rubbing his temple, he gets up, stumbling around a little before reading the sign.

"My head feels like cotton candy," Mars says, rubbing the bridge of her nose, "...Where are we?"

Alex, meanwhile, was pacing back and forth, the remains of the ropes they'd had to tie him with lying next to one of the cots. "Oh thank god, you guys are awake."

Cal's eyes snapped open and he looked around, in an instant panic. "NO! Oh my... NO NO NO SHIT!" he shouted, looking everywhere in a jerky, paranoid motion.

Cal's loud reaction finally woke up Cecil who is usually a sound sleeper.

"What the.. where the hell am I?" Cecil mumbled as he slowly sat up in his cot.

An intercom turned on and the loud voice of an older man, probably in his 50's began talking.

"Congratulations! You have been chosen to participate in the Higher Education and Research Opportunity program. Or HERO, for short. I would thank you for your bravery in the trials ahead, but you have no choice so screw it."

"The HERO program is designed to help gifted youngsters realize their full potential. We've tested everything from cyborgs to those snotty little chess prodigies in here and they've all come out better people for it. Or died. A lot of them died. Especially the chess prodigies. No upper body strength at all."

"Each room will challenge you with a series of tasks, designed to turn your flabby, weak selves into proper superheroes for a new age. Step up to the challenge, you'll be let go. Fail and...well...I can't tell you the consequences, because it might add bias to the results, but it will be painful. And lethal. Very, very, lethal."

"Just obey instructions and you should be fine. Good luck and godspeed, you poor doomed bastards."

Then the intercom shut off.

"Well, I dunno about you guys but I don't plan on doing any of that shit."

Steve had woken just in time to hear the terrifying message. Now he just stared. This couldn't actually be happening could it? Surely this was a dream working in the movie Saw which he totally wasn't allowed to watch. How would they even... right, the gas.

There was a rumbling, scraping sound. The walls moved closer together by about a foot and then stopped.

The door was large enough for several people to walk through at once. It was round and had no seams or breaks anywhere.

As anyone approached, the billboard briefly greeted them. It flashed "WELCOME #0003" as she approached.

And Sidney was promptly hit with a massive electric shock.

Then a large fanfare played and confetti fell from the ceiling. The billboard changed to read: "TEST #00001 CLEAR - MVP #0002"

With a whooshing sound, the door slid open. It appeared to lead into a long, dark hallway.
