You taught me too well last time for me to take that offer.  Also, you've already killed one of them, at least.

My terms are my own escape, and in a manner that won't leave me under suspicion of collusion.  Your terms?

That would leave me open to a lot of suspicion of collusion.

Alternate proposition: this is supposed to be an experiment.  Give me access to enough tech to make this interesting.

"Don't go down that hall!" Cal blurted out suddenly. "Whatever they did, it's not going to be a one-off thing, don't go down there!"

"Yeah, but we need to do it without letting them hurt us," he said, scanning the hall for energy or any detectable devices.

Haley let out a grunt of frustration as they broke off the effort to search for their classmates mentally.

"God damnit...suck at telepathy..."

She watched her roommate do her thing with satisfaction--she looked like something out of an action movie, and then regarded her boyfriend curiously as he halted anyone from going into the hallway.

"Well...I can probably grab him with my TK." she offered

Haley reached out with her arms to guide her TK and gently lifted Alex up, pulling him towards the group. This? She was good at this.

As the others discuss their strategy, Emily shifts her hands into large claws and begins shredding the door that Sidney disappeared behind.

She was smiling brightly and humming a cheerful tune.

Haley lifted the figure and brought it closer to the group. Nothing in the tunnel seemed to react to this. As she brought it closer to the light, they could see that it definitely looked like Alex. Blonde hair, cocky and punchable face, smooth baby skin...

Calvin's scan of the walls revealed some sort of teleport circuit integrated into the side.

As Emily tore away at the door, she could see a figure that looked like Sidney slumped over in the dark.

Cal frowned, not saying anything yet as he took the other halls one at a time to do a similar scan for anything detectable.

Steve would sense no brain activity from either figure.

Calvin would find that the halls that Alex and Sid had gone in both had the same teleportation circuits installed in the walls. The remaining hallway did not, but there was some sort of telepathic beacon that was no longer functional.

Cal was, for the moment, uncertain how to proceed. H didn't want to give anyone false hope, but...

As they all focused on the bodies, he started trying to work on the systems, first trying to access them remotely before he went into the hall for a more direct approach. He delegated a sub process to scanning the bodies for energy patterns while he did this.

But then they were robots!

A set of thrashing robotic tendrils erupted out of Alex's chest and immediately attempted to start wrapping themselves around Haley.

The one pretending to be Sidney likewise began charging down the dark hallway, a limp body propelled by robotic limbs.

Haley let out an ear piercing scream as the tendrils snaked around her, trapping her arms at her sides. She tried to just blast the hell out of the tendrils with her TK as they snaking towards her.

Brigid gritted her teeth and tumbled forward to grip the Alex-robot's shoulders and try to toss or yank it down into the (apparently bottomless) expanse.

Cal's lightning bolts shot from his fingertips, dancing around and striking robot!Sid right in the chest, knocking her off balance and down, if not out yet. It staggered back to it's feet, pseudo-flesh dripping off the robotic skeleton underneath.

Haley's blasts kept a couple of the tendrils at bay, at least temporarily--which was what Brigid needed to roll under them, grabbing the shoulders of the robot, and throwing it into the pit! Hurray!

Less "hurray" was one of said tendrils snaking up as the robot fell to grab Brigid around the ankle.

Brigid was steadied by Haley's quick TK burst, and a couple swift kicks would be enough to damage the tentacle enough to where Brigid could slip free, allowing the Alexbot to keep falling down the pit of despair.

Cal gave his clock a quick check to see how long they still had to make their choice as he fired off another lightning bolt at Sidney-bot.

Record and analyze. Identify any notable systems seen or suspected on the target robot.

The clock showed they had 29 minutes and 37 seconds remaining to make their choice.

The Sidbot took Cal's next bolt, and flailed down to the floor again, beginning to spasm as the electricity coursed through its circuits.

The bot, from a cursory scan, seemed to be mostly a punch-and-grab kind of thing, without many ranged weapons capabilities. While though, Cal would have faced tougher in previous experience--possibly leading him to believe this was the equivalent of a jab to test defenses before bringing the knockout blow.

Cal walked over to Haley, putting a hand on her shoulder. "Easy, babe," he whispered. "It's going to be okay. Don't listen when they're trying to piss you off."

Meanwhile, Cal tried to push his way into the teleport systems he'd detected, trying to reverse the last operation it'd done.

Well, you already played out your little farce with the doubles.  And you couldn't have picked two more boring people to study.  So let's make a deal.  There's something in my head you want... You give me the two tools back so people will stop crying and being difficult to wrangle, maybe I can open a few firewalls.
