I13: Who Builds These Things, Anyway?

Postby Will Stanton » Mon Jan 27, 2014 1:16 am

The airduct system was slightly cramped for most people. Oh, sure, Will had slipped down to six inches high and was having no trouble, and Ryan's secret spy training would have prepared him for this, but for the other stealthy people, this was probably a pain.

"Just about another 50 yards guys, you're doing great," Will whispered back to the people behind him.

Steph had again shifted back into wolf form, which made the squeeze slightly easier at least.

Ryan took point, seeming crazily agile as he flew through the duct. It took a lot of training to like that without touching the sides or making a racket, but he'd apparently had it.

The air vent continued, until it reached a grate on the other side--electrified, but easy enough to remove.

It emerged into a room filled to the brim with all sorts of machinery--everything from what looked like complex computer banks to old fashioned cogs and levers, connected to what seemed to be movable wall panels.

"It looks like some sort of...hrm. Maybe those walls move, and it's governed by these computers?"

Will dropped down from the shaft, and started walking down one of the paths provided.

As soon as Ryan and Steph dropped down, howver, guns popped out of the wall and started shooting at them--only them, and not Will, oddly enough.

Steph was too busy getting shot to notice. She yelped as two bullets tore into her flank before she had a chance to try and get out of the line of fire.

"Get down!" Will shouted, as he started punching on the computer banks to try to stop the gunfire.

Steph tried to get as much out of the line of fire as possible, crouching behind some machinery to get some cover.

Will dashed over to try to get behind Steph's cover...and the bullets stopped when he got between Steph and the gun.

"....Za?"

"I can't say I'm overly fond of the idea of using you as a shield, but you're even more durable than I am, and they don't seem to be shooting at you..." Steph pondered aloud, looking around the room suspiciously.

"...how well could you morph to cover both Ryan and me?"

Steph gave him the best approximation of a smirk a wolffish muzzle could allow, and sniffed the air, trying to find which piece of equipment Ryan may have found.

"Seraph, we're coming for you with mobile cover. You okay?"

Will shrunk down and bent backwards, forming nearly a riot-shield type covering over Steph.

"It's OK. Go high, Seraph, and get to the end of this hall. Steph and I will follow on the ground."

"You good, or should I get closer?"

"Going to cost you for me to not mention you said that," Ryan chuckled as he got in the mood of things. There was a flash as his wings formed, crossing in front of him like a shield as he charged the guns to draw their fire, counting on his speed being enough to get him past them and give Will and Steph an opening for their rush.

The guns were fast, but Ryan was faster, darting in and out of the space as the bullets trailed behind him, creating room for Steph to make her dash.

Her "shield" bent himself backwards to block the guns from trailing in behind her as they rounded a corner, coming up to a huge vault door.

"Smash it down!"

Steph's kick knocked a hole in the door, revealing an oversized command center, with banks of computers and controls, spread out admist vats of chemicals and other sciency...stuff.

Standing on a raised dais, frantically working some of the controls, was an old, familiar foe--Doctor Tomorrow.

"I really don't have time for this right now, but if you'll leave your name and number, I'll be sure to kill you soon."

"In the future? Or possibly in your womb, in which case, congratulations!" the Doctor said, diving behind the computer bank and coming up, firing a ray gun of some description.

A loud alarm sounded.

"Well, that's my cue to fly. It's been fun catching up, but I really must be going now. Ta-ta!"

He pressed a button on the ring on his finger--only for the ring to fly up towards the ceiling.

"...Well, damn."

Ryan, meantime, took a position above Dr. Tomorrow, hovering with his wings spread. "So, shall we answer the lady's question?"

Ryan darted to the side, bringing his wings in to shield himself. "The kids you took! Where are they!" he shouted, his wings snapping open and releasing a spray of energy 'feathers' at him.

Steph rolled forward to avoid the shot and came up in time for exchange between Rob and Ryan. She tried to time her lunge so that if Rob did try to get out of the way of Ryan's attack, she'd pounce directly on top of him a be a bit more persuasive up close.

Rob did get out of the way of Ryan's attack with a well placed, and far-too-athletic dive for someone of his particular build. Better living through science!

That left him vulnerable to Steph's attack, however. He DID have a plan B (or is it Plan C by this point?) for that--an electical shock system, built into his suit, which would have fried Steph's brains...

...had her "riot shield" not gotten into the way, absorbing the electrical attack and going spinning off to the side, temporarily incapacitated and shifting at random.

"Well...nice doggie?"

Stephanie growled in Rob's face, baring her fangs as she pinned his arms to the ground with a painful grip.

"Where. Are. The children?"
