Valdis was making use of the ship's exercise and fitness facilities. Apparently other species besides just humans use jump ropes for aerobics.

Bobby was in a corner with a sparring hologram, hopping and weaving, punching at the torso and face.

"Ugh!" he muttered, as the hologram connected, causing a stinging sensation.

"Neat." She stepped onto the plate without hesitation. The hologram instantly appeared, though it didn't initiate any training on its own. "Okay, I guess this room probably has a computer that will listen to you, right? Everything else does. Computer, start training! Difficulty level...hard." She raised her fists.

...and was promptly punched in the stomach, fairly hard.

"Ow!...shit."

"I can do this, I just need to try harder." She returned to her place on the metal plate. "Computer, start again." To her credit, she managed to evade a couple or so punches...before being hit again in almost the same spot.

"Okay, maybe you have a point," she grunted, grimacing.

"Computer, adaptive mode, bipedal species"

This time, the simulation would focus on Valdis, throwing the occasional punch or kick. She would find that it wasn't overwhelming, and was soon up to her own level. Occasionally, it would throw in a new move, but not in a surprising way. Valdis was learning and improving.

"So you're the handy type, then. That's cool." She followed up her gaffe from a moment before by delivering several successful punches (and a slightly less successful kick) to the hologram.

"I've never owned a car personally, bit if I ever do, I'll take it by your place. You know, when we're back."

Returning to his natural shape, the brass skin retreated, and seemed to seep into his body. soon, a flesh and bone person stood next to the holo-target.
