Stay ready for anything (wide open)

Postby Valdis Hallsdottir » Thu Mar 29, 2012 12:50 am

Valdis was making use of the ship's exercise and fitness facilities. Apparently other species besides just humans use jump ropes for aerobics.

Bobby was in a corner with a sparring hologram, hopping and weaving, punching at the torso and face.

"Ugh!" he muttered, as the hologram connected, causing a stinging sensation.

"Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. Isn't that how the idiom goes?," she asked between punctuated breaths.

"What can I say, it's tough to make 500 pounds of brass float." he said, rubbing his arm.

"And it looks like you're the one getting stung." She tossed the jump rope to the side. "How do you start up one of those simulations?"

"I just walked up to the floor plate, and it blinked on." he replied, gesturing to a free plate.

"Neat." She stepped onto the plate without hesitation. The hologram instantly appeared, though it didn't initiate any training on its own. "Okay, I guess this room probably has a computer that will listen to you, right? Everything else does. Computer, start training! Difficulty level...hard." She raised her fists.

...and was promptly punched in the stomach, fairly hard.

"Ow!...shit."

"Ow, I felt that here. Just keep in mind hard for you might be easy for a guy like me.. just start sparring. it'll adjust to your skill."

"I can do this, I just need to try harder." She returned to her place on the metal plate. "Computer, start again." To her credit, she managed to evade a couple or so punches...before being hit again in almost the same spot.

"Okay, maybe you have a point," she grunted, grimacing.

"Computer, adaptive mode, bipedal species"

This time, the simulation would focus on Valdis, throwing the occasional punch or kick. She would find that it wasn't overwhelming, and was soon up to her own level. Occasionally, it would throw in a new move, but not in a surprising way. Valdis was learning and improving.

"Too easy," she mumbled, but she kept going with regardless. "How long have you been doing this? Training for fighting, I mean, not specifically fighting boxing holograms."

"Since I was at the Xavier Institute in the States. It's been, shit, it's been a while now.."

He thought a moment, thinking how long he'd been training in a uniform with an X stitched on it.

"I feel so damned behind compared to you guys." She took a punch, at least partially blocked by her own arm, before countering with a right hook/

"Eh, don't worry too much. The learning curve isn't as tough as it seems."

Bobby got in a fighting stace, before letting loose a flurry of kicks to his target.

"My family, a string of failed relationships.. My shop."

He ducked and jabbed, sending the target reeling.

"So you're the handy type, then. That's cool." She followed up her gaffe from a moment before by delivering several successful punches (and a slightly less successful kick) to the hologram.

"I've never owned a car personally, bit if I ever do, I'll take it by your place. You know, when we're back."

"I'll give you the space traveller discount, then." Smiling, he looked at her combo.

"I'll keep that in mind." She brought her fists up to guard again, blocking a punch before delivering a blow of her own.

"What's your family like?"

bobby grunted, gritting his teeth.

"Not at all. We should all strive to do what is right with what is given to us. To have a gift that can help the world, and to not use it...that's a tragedy." She blocked another punch. "I don't think we as mutants are any better than anyone else, mind. We just have more responsibilities."

"Call it personal experience. The time it takes a mutant to realize the equation for every being living on earth together is more complicated then Charles Xavier makes it out to be. Or Magneto, for that matter."

"Then, I hope you never have a crisis of faith."

He steeled himself, then delivered a roundhouse kick, stretching his leg out a few feet extra.

"It'll compensate, I hope."

Smirking, he backed up a few feet, both feet and arms stretching out to deliver punches and kicks.

"I would try using my power, but I doubt that the crew of this ship would really appreciate me causing an earthquake. Or a shipquake." She was punched in the gut by the hologram. "...even if it is really, really tempting."

"Eh, it's not that important. I'll take it down."

Returning to his natural shape, the brass skin retreated, and seemed to seep into his body. soon, a flesh and bone person stood next to the holo-target.

"not much use in learning to fight, if you are just going to cheat with mutant abilities."
