The energy around the Matriarch faltered and she went flying into a wall, colliding with it roughly.

"Who did you think you had captured?" Altamira said, walking across the floor of the chamber. "Rook'shir? Diamanda Niro? Jean Grey?"

She fired bolt after bolt of energy at the downed matriarch. "You bit off far more than you could chew. You thought you could take advantage of an innocent young girl? I'm as old as time."

The Matriarch was broken and bleeding on the floor, reaching out her hand weakly.

"A...a..vatar..." she groaned.

"I believe she was talking to me," a deep voice rumbled from the shadows.

Heavy footsteps rung throughout the chamber as Thanos walked into view. He looked almost amused at the scene before him.

"It would be far more productive then begging for mercy."

"Enter it? For what purpose? You are as ignorant as the Matriarch and her followers," Thanos said, "This is no battery or connection to a higher power. It is a weapon with a very singular purpose. To release the power of the Phoenix. All of it."

"To the end of everything," Thanos said, "The Phoenix is powered by the energy of all future life. Every time you tap into your power, you are drawing it from all the unborn generations. You snuff out their lives one by one as you consume them to power yourself."

"With this weapon, I will purge the universe of all life with your flames and at the same time stamp out every life that ever could have been."

"It will be....glorious."

The collision sent shockwaves throughout the deck.

The Phoenix had an eon of experience -- but then, so did Thanos. And Altamira did not.

Still, she gritted her teeth and tried to gain leverage on the beast.

Stretching out his hand and lifting it as he fended off Mira's attacks, Thanos caused columns of metal to rise from the ground around her as he attempted to imprison her.

Mira focused her energy on one of the metal columns, melting it to slag, and then attempted to use her telekenesis to guide said molten slag right into Thanos's eyes.

"You are arrogant and foolish," Thanos said, "You wish to steal the power of the Avatar of Death? So be it."

Thanos emitted a massive blast of energy, filled with the terrified cries of people dying across the entire universe. Screams of pain and agony as the cold hand of death rose up to claim them. Millions of voices cried out at once, begging to be spared, begging to be shown mercy, and receiving neither.

Thanos chuckled, absorbing each blast with ease.

"Without guilt? Without shame? As you said, you are life incarnate."

Thanos let loose a focused blast, as tiny as the head of a pin and with the ability to cut through a planet at Altamira.

"Death is part of life. A fraction. The tiniest part," she said. "You might as well worship my little toe."

More beams flickered across the room, chasing after Altamira.

"Someday even the Phoenix will flicker out and die," Thanos said, "I expect on that day, you will finally understand."

Thanos slammed one hand into the ground, throwing up a wall of debris from the battle between him and Altamira. Launching himself off the ground, he charged towards the girl through the obscuring cloud and swung both arms at her with considerable strength.

Missing Altamira, Thanos slammed his foot down and broke off a piece of the floor. With one hand, he threw the massive slab of metal towards Altamira.

Altamira ducked, and, creating sort of a heat-shield of pure energy in front of her, flew at full speed towards Thanos's midsection, intending to drive him to and through the wall.
