The College Years - Moving In

It was move-in day at the dorms, and Nailah could see a few boxes had appeared while she had stepped out, though their owner was nowhere to be seen at the moment. It was less than Nailah perhaps had brought, as her unknown roommate had apparently packed light. On one of the desks in the dorm room there was a loaf of soda bread wrapped in plastic. Draped over the chair was a leather jacket with an "X" embroidered into the shoulder, enclosed in a circle.

"Roomies... God I wish for once I'd see something useful and know how they'll react." she mumbles to herself, either not recognizing or noticing the X symbol.

A redheaded girl walked in, clutching a cell phone distractedly.

"Don't worry, Mum. Everything arrived just fine. We've done this before, aye? Yes, even the bread. I'll put it to good use. I've got to unpack, alright? I'll call you next week."

As she came into the room, there was the oddest sensation of dozens of wings flapping, though it was brief.

"Uh...hi." she says with an awkward wave, waiting to see which of the two reactions is going to show on the girls face.

The girl did a double-take as she hung up, staring for a moment before she got her wits about her. Perhaps not the desired reaction.

"...did X-Corp send you?"

Her hair paled to blonde, as her skin-tone darkened and her facial features changed to a reasonable approximation of Nailah's. She met the sphinx's golden gaze with her own, smirking.

"Guess."

"Oh wow, you're a shapeshifter! And that's pretty damn close..." she says, studying 'her' face. "Guess that means you can fly too then."

"It's a little trickier to do that, for me," she said as she shifted back to normal.

"Wings on a human body are hard to do. It's kind of easier if I turn into a bird or something like that."

"I dunno, lots of mutants look normal. Both my parents do. Besides..." She unfolds her wings a bit and lets her tail swing back and forth a bit. "Not one to talk here."
