Becca considered that. "That probably falls under 'you figure it out as you go,'" she admitted. "On the bright side, she wouldn't know what to do either."

"And I didn't say to push her, but you should at least get an answer out of her before you write it off, you know?"

"You'd do that for me? Thank you Becca, you're the best!" She looks like she's about to hug Becca but then just kinda awkwardly rubs her own arm.

Becca smiled a little at that. "Yeah... the best," she mused, giving Nailah's arm a squeeze. "Now... you'd better go get in there and do your homework or something until it's time to get to sleep, so she doesn't see you freaking out and get the idea that she should freak out MORE."

"Yeah... right... that'd be bad. I caused enough trouble for one day..." she says and gets up, her head kinda swimming from trying to sort this all out in her head somehow.

When she closes the door behind herself she almost expects to burst into tears but instead she just feels dazed and confused. What the hell just happened. And why? Becca seemed pretty convinced but Nailah's not so sure. Telling Sam had felt right (if incredibly awkward) but shouldn't she feel more hurt by her reaction if that's really what was going on? And Becca apparently felt the same about Sam but then why did she kiss her? Just to prove a point? It had caught her too much by surprise to think much about anything when it happened anyway. Not that had felt bad, it just didn't answer anything. Or did it?

And how does Becca manage to be so... so... laissez-faire about it? I thought I was gonna sink into the ground when Becca talked about clothes-peeling and oh my... How would that work anyw--no, bad Nailah, one step at a time! God, why does this have to be so complicated? There's nothing bad about it, right? But then why did it scare Sam so much? She could have just said no... She sighs and lets herself fall on her bed.

Samantha finally ventured out of her room, largely because she was a bit thirsty.

Spotting Becca on the couch, she gave a sheepish smile.

"Hey, long night?"

"Maybe," Becca said, yawning as she sat up. "So where were you? Hardly saw you before you bolted through to your room, ignoring the poor invisible girl on the couch," she teased with a little smile.

Nailah had told herself she wasn't going to, but when she heard Becca's and Sam's muted voices through the door she can't help but sit down next to it, trying to make out what they were saying.

"Okay, okay, sorry..."

"Well, I was just ribbing her a bit because she has this hangup over Mister Worthington. Then, we started talking about girls who have crushes on the teachers, and from there we just started talking about boys in general. And she was pretty bitter about getting turned down for the dance, which I get, really, but then she said she was thinking of giving up on boys here at school."

"And you know, I figured she was just stewing a bit, aye? So I tried to encourage her and say she probably didn't mean that and... well, she said that I was her second choice to go to the dance with, and that I'd kind of let her down on that?"

"And then I totally took it the wrong way, freaked out, and ran away. It's not one of my prouder moments."

"Probably she's more worried than anything. I mean... I sure would be if you ran off like that," Becca reasoned. She smirked a little, making it seem like not such a serious question. "So... do you want to go with her to the dance? I mean... she'd probably look pretty stunning in a gown, right?"
