"Oh stop it, you don't have anything I don't have," Becca snapped. Except those cute freckles on- FOCUS, BECCA! "You want the curtain back? Tell me what the hell your problem is so that I can tell you why you're wrong!" Regardless of what she said, though, she did let go of the curtain.

And as Becca thought about them, Sam's freckles seemed to get just a little bit more prominent, towards whatever idealized version of them was in Becca's thoughts.

Meanwhile Nailah was kind of shifting from one foot to the other, trying REALLY hard to look anywhere but at Sam, her tail firmly coiled around her own leg to keep it from flailing around.

"Becca calm down..." she quietly tries to get her to back off, though she doesn't dare to actually step INTO the bathroom and try to pull Becca out or something.

At this point, frankly, Becca wasn't looking at the freckles. She was looking at Sam. Her infuriating, difficult, wonderful friend. "Nailah and I what. If anything went on, don't you think that you of all people would know it right next door to you? Do Irish girls not do slumber parties or something?"

At this point Nailah just stepped to the side of the door, her back to the wall. This seemed to make talking a little easier.

Becca sighed, finally taking pity and throwing the shower curtain closed. "Sam, you're my best friend," she said, much more gently. "And I love you. So right now, I'm going to go, and Nailah's going to go, and we'll see you at dinner. Do you think that's enough time to get through your head that life as you know it isn't suddenly ending?"
