Brooding

Nailah had been avoiding the topic of 'That Day/Night' because... well she's not entirely sure why except some vague concept of 'figuring things out'. The consequence of that is that she was kind of brooding at times, which she tried to hide by pretending to read. Like she was doing now, sitting on the couch in the common area of the dorm.

Becca sighed as she rolled over on the couch, the first sign that had been given that she was there, apparently dozing. This was confirmed as her camouflaged body seemed to shift for a few moments into something more resembling her dreams, then went white again. "Noooo... th' spiders can't have my ice cream..."

Nailah flinches and immidiately hates herself for it. Getting used to an invisible roommate is hard sometimes.

"Becca?" she says carefully. "Becca wake up, you're having a nightmare."

"Hey, wake up. There are no spiders." she says softly and aims to (hopefully) grab her shoulders to gently shake her awake.

Becca gave her an embarrassed smile. "Sorry... My dreams are... Kind of weird sometimes. Hope I didn't sound too weird..." She sat up, rubbing her eyes. "Still reading?"

Becca looked at her questioningly, smiling slightly. "You think you've been reading?" she said, only a slight tease to her voice.

"Yeah..." she admits. "Can't exactly talk to Sam about it and you think it didn't matter, so that leaves me to try and figure this out by myself..."

"I didn't think that it didn't matter," Victoria said quietly. "I just... Didn't want you to worry. Just... we can figure it out, but I didn't think things needed to be... I don't know, weird."

"Well I'm worrying anyway... I guess things aren't weird but it's... it's confusing. I wasn't exactly thinking straight when it happened but I don't wanna hurt you by assuming that's all it was, but what if it was?"

"Well..." Especially given the subject, Becca was nervous. "I don't want you worrying because of... well, me. But... well, if that's all it was, then what? And... If it wasn't all it was, then what?" It would, naturally, have been a lie to say that those questions hadn't been crossing her mind, too.

"I dunno..." she says, pulling her legs up on the couch and wrapping her arms around them, kind of imitating Becca without realizing it.

"That's what I've been trying to figure out but I can't because I'm scared of being wrong and I don't know how you're supposed to know when you're right or wrong about this kinda stuff..."

"Me either," Becca admitted, mirroring the posture without thinking about it. She was quiet for a moment. "I mean, it was nice," she put in, after a moment's thought.

Becca frowned, trying to keep track of all the careful stepping around saying exactly what the subject is. "In this case, does you being wrong mean that there is or isn't chemistry going on?"

Nailah looks a little embarrassed by things being 'called out' like that.

"Isn't, I guess..." she says awkwardly. "It just... It's hard. I think about it and then I get worried about you getting hurt and then that thought makes me want to hug you and then it just starts over again and I don't know what to do..."

"Well... If I don't want to hurt you, and you don't want to hurt me, then... even if it doesn't work we could make it hurt less than it should, right?" Becca said hopefully.

Some small part of Nailah realizes that that's not how things work but (thankfully?) that part is being drowned out by the part of her that took notice of other possibilities. Like for instance the one that starts with her reaching out and gently running her hand up Becca's arm and coming to rest on her shoulder. And somehow that's exactly what happens before Nailah has a chance to think too much and talk herself out of it.

Becca's hand covered hers before she could really think about it. She looked up at her over the pink-lensed glasses, her expression... scared? Nervous? No... the closest that could be used to describe it had to be 'vulnerable'. I wonder if she's picturing us kissing right now too.

Nailah's heart just about jumps into her throat when Becca looks at her like that and for a while she just looks back, her fingers trembling a little beneath Becca's hand. Do it. Do it now. What are you waiting for? the voice in her head yells and that's what breaks her stupor, slowly leaning over towards Becca...

Becca had, apparently, been teetering on the verge of doing or not doing the same thing, and Nailah's move pushed her over the edge. She started leaning forward a fraction of a second later, much more nervous now when there was actual thought involved than the other day when it was all impulse. She did her best not to let her nervousness make her shake as she leaned in and kissed Nailah, hesitantly at first, then slowly more surely when she started to grow sure that the other girl wasn't going to pull back suddenly.

And there was probably nothing further from Nailah's mind. Some of her nervousness slowly melts away though this is still different, less spur of the moment and less desperately than the first time. Grasping the difference between passionate and lovingly is still beyond her but that's kind of what it is. Her hand is still pressed against Becca's shoulder when her wings spread to wrap around the other girl. They're not nearly big enough to really hide the two underneath them but it still adds to the sense of the two being wrapped up in their own little world.

Becca shivered, reaching around Nailah and pulling her closer as she herself slid toward her. This was... much more nerve wracking than the first time had been, since this time... she couldn't rationalize anything away. This wasn't just a spur of the moment thing. This was because she wanted to, and because Nailah wanted to, without any impulsiveness to fall back on.

Becca smiled, still shyly. "It... does, doesn't it?" And... really it did. She'd never admit it to Sam, but she had tried getting close to other people, just to cut the loneliness, but it had always felt... hollow? Fake? But she trusted Nailah. And she IS gorgeous...

"And nervous or not, you didn't turn invisible once." she smiles.
