Flee maths, flee!

A flashback to the faculty's days at Xavier's in Salem Center, NY. However, something is different...

"...whoah, that's... that's pretty neat, there."

"And..." She looked to him as her features stabilized. "...thanks for the assist," she said with a smile.

He smiled back. "Two heads are better than one. And I like you better that way." He looked down the street. "So... now we take a little walk, and we see what restaurants feel the best."

A faint blush came to her cheeks as they walked.

"Ooh, that one seems nice but... yeah, too pricey. Hmm... but those over there seem to be really enjoying themselves."

"Hmmm... that one does seem pretty good," he said, smiling slightly as the blush doesn't escape his notice. "All right... step two. Push a little further and feel what the kitchen staff feels like. As long as they don't feel too skeevy, we're in business."

She reached out a little further, and there was another momentary slip but his aid kept it almost unnoticeable.

"...well, I don't think they're spitting in the food or anything."

"Well, then we have a winner," Mike said, holding open the door for her as they approached the place. Sam would sense an instinctive mental shield going around him as they walked in, which he expanded a moment later to encompass her, too.

Samantha did her best to contribute a bit of her own to the shield, though she was plainly unused to the telepathic closeness.

Okay, well this is different... er... can he hear that? I bet he can hear that... well, keep cool here. He's a nice boy...

"Definitely looking like a good choice," she said with a slightly nervous smile, looking around as they were seated.

"Having second thoughts about being seen in public with me?" Mike asked, smirking slightly as he held her chair out for her.

"What? No, no, that's not it at all! It's just..."

...he can totally hear me. Stay cool, stay cool, you're fine. It's not like I'm thinking about... muscles. Muscles? Where did that come from? Bad Sam bad!

"Er, don't worry about it!" She smiled sheepishly as she took a seat, studiously perusing the menu.

Mike took a moment to look at the menu himself, letting her have a few minutes to compose herself. "As long as you're sure," he said, letting her have her nervousness without pressing it.

Hm... that looks good. And I think that guy over there had it and liked it, and he looks like he'd know his food...

Okay, he... he didn't notice. Or he's too polite to let on that I'm acting like a total dork. So... bonus?

"...hmm, the lasagna is sounding really good."

"Oh, har-har," she said before snickering.

"I think Italian is kind of my guilty pleasure. The only worry is all the garlic, aye?"

"This is where I point out that garlic can't possibly affect women, since we all know that women are perfect in every way and free to criticize the shortcomings of men, right?" he joked.

"Well, then the only solution is for me to eat something that gives me no room to talk. Then we can both be too worried to notice," Mike said, grinning.

"I don't know, he seems like more of a water buffalo to me," Mike reasoned. "Of course, I've never seen one, so I wouldn't know. I don't think they have them off in the magical land of pixies and leprechauns either, do they?"
