Issue 1 Downtime

Sometime after classes, there is a gentle knock at Murphy's door.

There is the usual shuffling and sound of falling books before Murphy opens the door.

"Hey," Murphy says. She sounds a little groggy but not particularly annoyed. She smiles.

"Hey. Got some time to talk? I mean actually talk."

Murphy nods. She glances back into the dark, book-infested cave that is her room and frowns.

"Come in?" She sounds apologetic as she opens the door to her room.

"You've got nothing to be ashamed of," she says as she makes her way in.

Murphy raises an eyebrow at that as she carefully steps around large stacks of books. She clears out a chair for Brigid and sits on the floor.

"Okay?"

"Just don't want you to feel self-conscious. We're pack," she says as she sits down.

"...how's Theresa holding up?"

"Little rough," Murphy says, hugging her knees. "Hard on her."

"Wish I knew how to make it up to her. Things went crazy pretty fast."

Murphy nods in agreement. "Sorry. Again."

"I talked to Vertie, after everything calmed down."

"Vertie's kind of... formal about these things, but her heart's in the right place. She doesn't want us always fighting, and I agree with that."

"Other than that, I'm not sure I know. It hurt to see Theresa look at me like that."

Murphy appears to be thinking something over.

"I should talk to Vertie," Murphy says. "Need advice."

"Gotta do the good stuff after the bad," she grins back, a bit of gold in her eyes.

"The good things involve less clothing and more hair."

Murphy nods in agreement. Her eyes gleaming bright yellow. There's a bit of an awkward silence. Murphy shifts uncomfortably. She feels a weird energy in the room she can't quite put her finger on. It's making her antsy.

"I should go," Murphy says suddenly. She starts to stand up, "Take care of things."

Whatever oddness Murphy feels, Brigid seems to have picked up on it as well, her bearing going tense.

"...yeah," she replies with a fidget before standing as well.

"Thanks for having me, though."

"Anytime," Murphy says quickly.

And that's when she falls over a stack of books.

"Jesus!" Brigid says, skirting around the piles to Murphy.

"You alright?" She says, holding out a hand to help the girl up.

"Fine," Murphy says. She looks embarrassed, but accepts the hand up.

Brigid hefts Murphy back up, her stomach rumbling as she does so.

"...maybe I should eat soon."

"Hungry," Murphy agrees. She was always hungry lately. It worried her sometimes.
