I12DT: What Ghost Up, Must Come Down

[Regan Rourke]

Regan was waiting in Nailah's office.

One of the most irritating thing about being a ghost was that you couldn't mess with people's stuff. If it was up to Regan, she would have probably thrown most of Nailah's possessions out of the office window.

As it was, all she could do was sit in mid-air and sulk.

[Nailah Weaver]

After a bit Nailah comes into her office and at first ignores Regan, sitting down at her desk and going through her stuff until she finds a small journal.

"Regan, I appreciate you trying to keep your classmates out of trouble. I really do. But a small group of students was just ripped out of reality and to the Inbetween. If you could please tell me what actually happened now."

[Regan Rourke]

"What's to tell? I thought it'd be funny to throw Calvin into the afterlife," Regan says, "Haley and Christie got caught up in it accidentally."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Somehow I don't believe you, which is good because if I thought you did this on purpose this talk would have a much different tone. But what, pray tell, was that psychic impressions Miss Cusek gave me of this." she asks, slapping her open journal on her desk in front of Regan, showing a drawing of an eerily familiar scene that was obviously made before today.

[Regan Rourke]

"You and Haley share the same interest in weird fetish porn?" Regan says, "Looks like a demon of some sort to me."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Yes, congratulations, the first sensible thing I heard come out of your mouth today." she says, deciding to ignore the first half of Regan's comment. "What can you tell me about it."

[Regan Rourke]

"Not much," Regan says, "It's ugly as Haley and it steals faces apparently. That's about it."

"Oh, and it's stalking me apparently. But that's probably just because it thinks I'm cute or something."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Just once could you try simply being helpful without having to balance it with snipes at your classmates?" she sighs. "What do you mean it's stalking you?"

[Regan Rourke]

"A part of it attacked me a few weeks ago in town," Regan says, "I didn't say anything 'cause I assume no one cares."

[Nailah Weaver]

"You'd be wrong, but I realize that expecting you to believe that is asking a little too much right now." she smiles faintly. "Truth is, something's been slithering around in the shadows and I can't seem to pin down who or what it is. Are you sure it was the same demon?"

[Regan Rourke]

"Well, it seemed to know that I stole one of its faces," Regan says, "And it deliberately paraded around a body I possessed the other day."

"So no. I'm not sure at all," Regan says, "It probably was just a misunderstanding on my part."

[Nailah Weaver]

"I'm just going to assume you're not actually making outrageous claims for once. Something out there obviously has an interest in you, which isn't all that surprising. I'm not sure what to make of this right now, but please keep your eyes open."

[Regan Rourke]

"Yes ma'am," Regan says, with a mocking salute, "I am your sword and shield, m'lady."

[Nailah Weaver]

"I said keep your eyes open, not pretend I gave your permission to chase after these sort of things. Not that I expect you to listen one way or the other but that's a different issue. Which brings me to your punishment. You're going to help out with the daycare program for a week. Two hours per day. I hear a single complaint and I'll ask Victoria to transfer you to a genie-bottle for a month and stuff it with the most garish pink decorations possible."

[Regan Rourke]

To her credit, Regan doesn't register a single complaint.

The facial expression she gives manages to communicate quite a bit about how she feels about this though.

[Nailah Weaver]

"I meant from daycare staff or parents. Though I must say I'm glad I don't have to hear the words to go with that expression."

[Regan Rourke]

"You're going to regret this," Regan says.

[Nailah Weaver]

"I would recommend not trying to see if I run out of punishments before you run out of ideas on how to make my life miserable."

[Regan Rourke]

"And I'd recommend you'd stop dressing like King Tut's prostitute, but you never listen to me."

[Nailah Weaver]

"You'll find people listen to you more if you act less abrasive. I know, the very thought is anathema to you, but I know you'd be happier if you made some friends."

[Regan Rourke]

"I don't want to be happy," Regan points out.

[Nailah Weaver]

"Oh you've made that painfully obvious."

[Regan Rourke]

"Good," Regan says, "Maybe I finally getting through your thick skull."

[Nailah Weaver]

"I believe we're done here. And as usual, if there is anything I can help you with you just have to ask. So I will probably see you the next time you cause some kind of situation."

[Regan Rourke]

"I am quivering in anticipation," Regan says, leaving.
