II2DT: The Raven and the Spider

[Nina Madaraki]

Nina knocks on Sam's door.

[Samantha McManus]

"Come in, Nina."

[Nina Madaraki]

"Hello, Ms. McManus," Nina says politely. She still felt like a student around Sam. It was weird, "Do you happen to have a few minutes?"

"I know things are a bit crazy right now."

[Samantha McManus]

"I've as much time as I'm likely to. What can I do for you?"

[Nina Madaraki]

"It's about the...girl in your medical ward," Nina says, "Alexandria McDougal? Foul mouthed, in a wheel chair, belonged to a group of pro-mutant terrorists?"

"SHIELD is formally requesting that you release her into our custody," Nina says, "Immediately."

[Samantha McManus]

"Is SHIELD requesting this or are you requesting this?" She quirked a brow.

[Nina Madaraki]

Nina keeps her face placid and emotionless, "As an agent of SHIELD, it doesn't matter what I want."

"Ms. McDougal will be taken in for processing. She will be formally charged by a SHIELD tribunal with aiding and abetting a superhuman terrorist organization," Nina says, "Because she is rated as an A-class superhuman threat, she will be held at the Raft until she turns 18. Then, she will be given a choice between a lifetime in prison or working for SHIELD as a 'monitored asset'."

"However, since we have no legal jurisdiction over the school, we can't force you to hand her over," Nina says, "That's why we're making an official request."

[Samantha McManus]

"They threw her off a bloody roof, Nina."

"What's more, we have the leader of the group in custody. Why does this girl matter so much?"

[Nina Madaraki]

"She's a valuable asset," Nina says, "The MRA is receiving some resistance stateside. SHIELD wants all the superpowered help they can muster."

"Ms. McDougal has no parents and a criminal record," Nina says, "Her only living relative appears to be a half-sister, who is currently a SHIELD agent. It's a great opportunity for the organization."

At this last bit, Nina seems to roll her eyes a bit.

[Samantha McManus]

"You're telling me that SHIELD is coming down in support of the MRA?"

"And that last bit seems... overly specific," she quirked a brow.

[Nina Madaraki]

"SHIELD is against domestic terrorists who endanger innocent lives, regardless of politics," Nina says, "I wouldn't know anything about the half-sister. Any family involved in an investigation and detention of a suspect would be in direct violation of SHIELD policy, ma'am."

[Samantha McManus]

"It's not like you to lie to me, Nina."

[Nina Madaraki]

"I have no idea what you're talking about, ma'am," Nina says, "I'm just here to advise you on your course of action. It would be very unwise to, say, refuse the release of Ms. McDougal to SHIELD. Even though there would be no legal consequences and the agent in charge is a well known ditz with a documented tendency to misplace important files or reports."

One thing Nina had learned at SHIELD: how to play the game.

"...I'll take it under advisement."

[Nina Madaraki]

"Thank you," Nina says, finally smiling, "It's extremely appreciated."
