Sept. 5th: Anyone Home?

[Veronica Glarette]

She continues watching the memory, taking note of the man's appearance and trying to catch a glimpse of if he was royalty or matched any paintings she had seen of royalty.

[Narrator]

He certainly CARRIED himself like an important person, but it wasn't anyone Veronica would recognize.

He said something to the girl, who tried to turn away. He grabbed her by the leg and shouted something (in Polish) at her.

[Veronica Glarette]

She paused in her writing, but quickly tried to jot down how the words sounded to her in the best way she could write it, continuing to watch.

[Narrator]

The woman jerked away, and slapped the man upside the face, hard.

THAT caused a ruckus.

[Veronica Glarette]

She pushed past this memory in sort of a fast forward type way, attempting to sift through things. Her eyes glowed a bit brighter. She didn't know what she was searching for, but she was sure there had to be something besides drunken perverts.

[Narrator]

Fast forwarding, she saw the cup being pulled out of a bag. It was the woman from earlier, now significantly less extravagantly dressed. She tossed the cup in the air once or twice and smiled to herself, before placing it back along a bunch of other shiny cutlery.

[Veronica Glarette]

She pulls back her hand with a bit of a smirk, the light in her eyes dimming. "Eet will never cease to amaze me how karma seems to almost always haf a hand in situations." She didn't know what memory she had exchanged for that one, but she didn't think it to be a big deal. Probably just something silly. She looked to Roland. "Do you know Polish?"

[Roland Sackville]

"I do," Roland nodded. "Or, at least, I can muddle through it."

[Veronica Glarette]

She looks at her journal and sounds out what she copied. [Insert Silly French Accent Polish Attempt Here]

"Does zat sound familiar?"

[Roland Sackville]

Roland looked at it for a moment, and frowned. "Yes. Yes it does."

[Veronica Glarette]

"I am going to assume it is somesing not so pleasant."

[Roland Sackville]

"You could say that, though it all happened a long time ago, and he did not come out on top in the end."

[Veronica Glarette]

"If you are speaking off zee man I saw drinking from zis, then from zee way he treated zee ladies, I would not be surprised. He seemed a bit..." She tries to find an appropriate word.

[Roland Sackville]

"Boorish?"

[Veronica Glarette]

She nods quickly. "Zee perfect word. Sank you."

[Roland Sackville]

"Yes, that sounds about right."

[Veronica Glarette]

"Who was he? He seemed important, but I can not recall seeing him on any paintings."

[Roland Sackville]

"Oh, some duke who thought of himself much higher than any normal person would have, with more money than sense."

[Veronica Glarette]

"Money can do terrible sings to people."

[Roland Sackville]

"It can also be quite handy, though. You'd be surprised what you can accumulate over time."

[Veronica Glarette]

"Zis is true. Mais, too many people zees days focus solely on material goods zen living life. Zis goes along wis what I said earlier about zis day and age. I imagine you have accumulated quite a number off sings in your life, non? As well as old currencies in general?"

[Roland Sackville]

"I've kept a trinket or two."

[Veronica Glarette]

She gives a nod. "I sank you for letting me do zis. If eet wouldn't be any trouble, would eet be possible for me to come by every now and zen to see an artifact? I do not wish to intrude, mais, my curiosity about eet all is too much to bear."

[Roland Sackville]

"I don't see where there could be too much harm, no..."

[Veronica Glarette]

She beams a smile. Apparently this means a lot to her. "Sank you so much. I may not be able to do much like zee osers here in way off combat and zee like, but I am hoping that one day I will be able to find somesing zat will help shed light on zee world from zee sidelines."

[Roland Sackville]

"Try to avoid combat, if you can. Those who seek it tend not to have fulfilling lives."

[Veronica Glarette]

She nods. "I haf seen some terrible sings over time in zee memories of somesing as simple as a brick in a building. It is heartbreaking as well as terrifying, if I am to admit."

[Roland Sackville]

"Yes. I can see how that would be hard to avoid."

[Veronica Glarette]

"Do not even get me started on zee Catacombs. I sink zat was zee worse I haf ever seen."

[Roland Sackville]

"The catacombs? In Paris?"

[Veronica Glarette]

She nods solemnly, the memories fresh in her mind even to this day.

[Roland Sackville]

"Yeah, I can see how that would be...less than pleasant."

[Veronica Glarette]

"Eet was seeing zee missing children zat was zee worse." She says a bit softly. Obviously that bothered her.

[Roland Sackville]

Roland nodded, resting one hand on her shoulder. "It'll be alright."

[Veronica Glarette]

She nods a bit then puts on a smile, dipping her head. "I haf taken up too much off your time already. Sank you very much for allowing me zis opportunity."

"Feel free to stop by later," Roland nodded.

[Veronica Glarette]

Closing her journal, she gives a smile. "I most definitely will. Sank you again, Professor." She makes her way out of the office.
