Administrating and Receptionizing

[Gemma Sloan]

As a part of her therapy, Gemma had worked out a part-time job as one of the receptionists in the admin building. She was currently sitting behind the desk, flipping through an atlas since there wasn't much else to do.

((Open))

[ASHLIE]

"Good morning!" a cheerful robot chirps at her as it walks in from somewhere in the back. "I have fixed the server issue for the student registry. The connection to the database should be optimal again."

[Gemma Sloan]

Gemma looked up, blinking, "I wasn't aware there was a problem with the connection. What was the problem?"

[ASHLIE]

"It was running at only 79% efficiency and delayed queries by almost .3 seconds."

[Gemma Sloan]

"Ah, well it's good you fixed it then," Gemma said, smiling. "Of course, there hasn't been much that needed looking up today."

[ASHLIE]

"You are welcome." she smiles as brightly as a robot can. Which is to say, not very much. "Is there anything else I can help you with?"

[Gemma Sloan]

"I can't think of anything, unless you understand combining multiple personalities."

[ASHLIE]

"Only if they are digital."

[Gemma Sloan]

"Well, there's only the two, but I don't think that quite qualifies."

[ASHLIE]

"I'm afraid not."

[Gemma Sloan]

"I didn't really expect you to know," she said with a shrug. "Do anything fun recently?"

[ASHLIE]

"I tried to gain access to S.W.O.R.D. headquarters to use their facilities to stargaze but they told me their deep-space telescopes are for purposes of global security only."

[Gemma Sloan]

"I... see," Gemma said, having no idea what ASHLIE was talking about. "Maybe it would be easier just to get a telescope of your own?"

[ASHLIE]

"But theirs are so much better."

[Gemma Sloan]

"But if you have your own telescope, there's no one to tell you no when you want to use it."

[ASHLIE]

"But it wouldn't be in space and it's resolution would be atrocious."

[Gemma Sloan]

"But it would be yours."

[ASHLIE]

"I don't think they would appreciate it if I tried to steal theirs."

[Gemma Sloan]

"I wasn't suggesting you steal their telescope, just that you get your own. Having one of your own should be reason enough."

[ASHLIE]

"I don't want a bad one and there is room on campus to construct a good one."

[Gemma Sloan]

"Well, constructing one would probably require a lot more permission."

[ASHLIE]

"Yes. It would be very complicated to own one for myself."
