Worst part of a toss-up...

[Connor Marshall]

Connor sat in the waiting area of the medical center, waiting to get looked at for the gash on his head. It wasn't bad, of course, but... well, it did need cleaning, and probably a stitch or two (damn it).

[Isabel Galen]

"Connor!" Isabel called, looking up from her clipboard in surprise.

[Connor Marshall]

"Hm? Oh, 'ello, luv. Is it my turn?"

[Isabel Galen]

"yeah, it looks like you're my first patient." Isabel said.

[Connor Marshall]

"Ah, good," he said, holding the towel against his head as he stood up, heading to follow her, giving her an amused and only slightly sheepish grin. "Not how I hoped I'd look when I ran into you again. You should see the other blokes, though," he joked.

[Isabel Galen]

"Yeah, I bet." Isabel said "Lets get into a room and see what is going on."

[Connor Marshall]

Connor followed her in, pulling the towel carefully away from his head. From the looks of it, it had been rather inexpertly cleaned, and wasn't exactly fresh. More than likely he'd waited until morning to come in... which no, wasn't exactly ideal.

[Isabel Galen]

"That looks pretty ugly." Isabel said "Give me your hand and I'll fix you right up."

[Connor Marshall]

Connor scoffed. "Please, it's a scratch, luv. Nothin' that needs ta get passed on. Just get 'em ta clean it and sew it up."

[Isabel Galen]

"Let me at least check you out." Isabel said "It'll only take a second."

[Connor Marshall]

"Oh, you can check me out all you want, luv," Connor said with a chuckle. "Just need cleaned up is all."

[Isabel Galen]

"Hold out your hand, please." Isabel said "I need to touch your wrist, it won't take long."

[Connor Marshall]

"All right," he said, holding out his hand skeptically.

[Isabel Galen]

Isabel put her hand on his wrist, and stood silently for a minute. "You've got a mild concussion, not just the cut, and your left knee has an old injury that healed wrong. And a couple of cracked ribs. The good news is that I can fix it all."

[Connor Marshall]

"Nah. 'S nothing serious, luv. Just tell me what I need to do. Cracked ribs 'n a concussion? So just take it easy 'til I heal up, right?"

[Isabel Galen]

"Repeated concussions can be very dangerous, and can take a very long time to heal." Isabel said "I can get a doctor in to treat you the usual way, or you can be of of here and everything will be fixed."

[Connor Marshall]

"Regular way's fine, luv. People get knocked around every day 'n don't need a fancy healer."

[Isabel Galen]

"Ok." Isabel said "Its your choice, but I don't understand why you want to be in pain."

[Connor Marshall]

He smirked. "Someone's going to, luv. Might as well be the stupid blighter that got into a pub brawl."

[Isabel Galen]

"This is a macho thing, isn't it." Isabel said, sounding a bit unprofessional for a moment.

[Connor Marshall]

"This is me not bein' a hypocrite, luv," he said. "Think 'm gonna tell you not to go grabbin' everything off anyone who stubs their bloody toe, then have you do it to me after a little toss-up like this?"

[Isabel Galen]

"This is different." Isabel said "You're really hurt."

[Connor Marshall]

"An' I came to get checked out. Long as I relax and don't do anything mental 'til I'm patched up, I'll be fine."

[Isabel Galen]

"Ok." Isabel said "I'll go and page Dr. Zee."

[Connor Marshall]

"Thanks, luv. And 'macho' would've been not coming in at all. Just sayin'."

[Narrator]

A few minutes later, a older man in a lab coat came in. "Hello, I am Dr. Zee. Ms. Galen gave me her diagnosis, but I would like to examine you myself.

[Connor Marshall]

"Sounded 'bout right. 's not that serious," Connor said. Nevertheless, he submitted to it like someone who was very used to being checked out by doctors.

[Isabel Galen]

"She seems to be correct about the head injury and the ribs" Dr. Zee said with a sniff "It will require more testing to verify what she said about your knee. Testing that can't be done here, unfortunately."

[Connor Marshall]

Connor waved a hand at that. "She said it healed bad, not that it's hurt. Call it hazards of bein' reckless," he said dismissively.

[Narrator]

"Ah, yes." Dr. Zee replied "Healers are always quick to criticize, and to try to 'improve' outcomes."

[Connor Marshall]

"Eh. She means well. Little too eager to help," he said, wincing as he had his wound cleaned out.

[Narrator]

"She's less likely to do damage than most." Dr. Zee admitted "But she needs to learn when her power should be used, and when stitches can do the job just as well."

[Connor Marshall]

Connor smirked. "Yeah, try tellin' 'er that," he said. "Think she thought I was daft when I asked for stitches."

[Narrator]

"She doesn't realize that good stitching can prevent a scar." Dr. Zee replied "Or rather, she doesn't believe it. None of them do."

[Connor Marshall]

"Eh. Sometimes if yer dumb enough to get a good cut, you deserve to have a scar anyway. Just keep me from gettin' infected an' I'll be happy."

[Narrator]

"You should be able to heal with no problem, but if you have any swelling or redness, return immediately. I'll give you a prescription, as well."

[Connor Marshall]

"Thanks doc. An' no toss-ups 'til I'm all patched up, I know. Blimey, and there's a game coming up... ah well."

[Narrator]

"If you undo my work, well, you won't do that, will you?" Dr. Zee said, giving him a look.

[Connor Marshall]

"Nah, gettin' sewn up's too bloody unpleasant to get it torn open," he said. "Not too keen on seein' what a concussion can do to me, either aye?"

[Narrator]

"You should avoid headbutting, yes?" Dr Zee said "For at least six months."
