Room 101: The Lion and the Lamb

Gar sat in the uncomfortable hospital chair beside Vertie's bed. The medical staff were able to get his sister the help she needed even though he'd hovered and growled at people, to his credit he managed not to actually roar at anyone there. Now he was just waiting for her to wake up and he wasn't likely going to move until she did.

"She'll wake up in a bit," Allison said from where she was leaning on the door. She was wearing a faculty training outfit and apparently had been one of the referees tonight. "Kay's sedative isn't serious, but it'll knock you right out if you don't have a healing factor to handle it."

"She's faster then most. So, soon." He looked up and actually managed a smile. "The girl smelled...familiar. The sea...globe-fish, dangerous, I wasn't sure." He looked back at Vertie. "She'd not crying. The little puffer fish may have done us a big favor."

"Kay has some fish-like traits, yeah, but she's not a feral classification like us. Judging by the video I saw on my way over, you do owe her an apology though."

Gar nodded. "Not one of my best moments."

'I get being protective of your sister, I really do, but sooner or later you're going to have to realize that virtually no one here would willfully try to harm her and most of them would go out of their way to protect her."

"I...understand. It was...confusing. She was pushing very hard...then gone." He began to softly growl, then shook his head and ran a free hand through is hair. "I do not make a habit of roaring at little girls."

Funnily enough, it would seem that most of the medical center staff were doing their best to avoid Allison, as was made obvious by a nurse crossing to the other side of the hall behind her. "I don't imagine you do, but you're going to need to get a handle on that temper if you want to join the teams. Call it friendly advice."

"Trust me, if I didn't have a handle on it, I would have done more then just roared at the girl. I do appreciate the advice." He carefully took Vertie's hand. "I take it, I'm not the first to growl at the staff here?"

Allison glanced over her shoulder, "I'm a horrible patient in the best of times and I only come here when I'm in pain, which just makes it worse. My girlfriend's one of the few people who can put up with me when I'm like that."

"Pain and fear gets to even the best of us." he chuckled softly. "I will make amends and I'll try not to loom over her when I do. Do you think a gift would help?"

"Maybe. She's an artist, if that helps. She's also dating the Headmistress' daughter, so you might want to step a *little* carefully."

"Wow, I stepped in it this time." His free hand went through is hair again.

"That probably means more to Kay than it does to the Headmistress, but no sense in making enemies."

"I have more then my share, no need to add more." Gar agreed. "I think I may have something she'd like, if she accepts. I'll even find her as soon as the game ends."

"You might want to give it a bit. If you go straight after the game, she may panic."

"Amusing movie," she commented, moving over to take a look at Vertie.

As Allison moved closer she would feel Vertie's power again. The young girl was..."happy, contented and at peace". "One of her favorites, watched it SO many times. Loves Dory."

Gar nodded. "That's what I was talking about earlier, now imagine what an infant would be projecting and place that baby in a room full of shifters and ferals."

Allison grunted in acknowledgement, taking the girl's other hand. "Well, like I said, she's safe here."

"I did it for her and I did it for them. They would have torn each other apart over her." He smiled as his sister began to stir and mumble.

Vertie's eyes fluttered open and she smiled, "Hello, Mister Grumpy Gills. Did we win?" She asked as she turn to see who had her other hand. "Hi, Miss Roger. He didn't hurt anyone, did he?"

"Oh, that's why I was dreaming about 'Finding Nemo'. She packs a punch though." She released Allison and Gar's hands and felt for the pin pricks in her shoulders. "She could sell whatever that was on the street and make a mint."

"You slept well." Gar touched her cheek and smiled. "Don't go looking to get poked again though. Deal?"

"Really?" She touched her own cheek and grinned, but nodded. "Deal, She shut me down, hard....I don't like not being able to "feel" like that."

"You'll apologize to Kay." She poked Gar in the arm. "On your knees if you have to. So you don't scare her again, yeah?"

"I will an hour or so after the game. I swear, I'll even offer her the Red Stone as a peace offering." He flinched playfully from Vertie's poke.

As Allison removed her hand the full effect of Vertie lessened, but the comfortable warmth of being near the girl lingered. "Actually, you both can shoo. I'm fine, no smothering." She poked Gar again.

"Guilty, but I did promise to be less smothering." he stood and ruffled the top of her head and followed Allison.
