Sting Like a Bee ((open))

Renovated and expanded from the estate's original stables, in memoriam of Alysande Stuart. Houses a modest swimming pool suitable for laps and diving, numerous exercise equipment, and an indoor basketball court. A soccer field is nearby, and the stables are still maintained with a number of well-heeled equines.

Teri is in the rec center in the room with the punching bags. She looks more than a little out of place as she looks around, trying to figure out of there's any trick or if she's just supposed to start punching the bags or what.

Nash is walking through the rec center when he notices Teri looking confused.

"Do you need help with something?"

"Possibly. Do you just punch the bags or is there something more to it?" she asks, giving the bag a careful tap with her knuckles. She clearly has no idea what she's doing. For one she has her thumb tucked into her fist.

"In a way you just punch the bags, but they are for training, and it only helps if you're doing it right."

"You don't put your thumb inside your fingers, for one. Step one is to make a proper fist."

Nash used his hands and showed her the right way to make a fist, saying what to do as he did it.

"You make a fist like this, putting your fingers tight together like so, then put your thumb on the outside like this."

"Like this?" she asks and lifts her fists up. Her thumbs are sticking out a bit too much but otherwise she got the general idea.

"Yes, that's close, just move your thumb in a little." He makes a fist like hers, then moves his thumb in a bit like he wants her to do.

She mimics his fists and then gives the bag a careful punch. For generous definitions of the word 'punch'.

"You're making the fist right, now to show you how to throw a punch. Lets start with a simple jab."

"When you actually punch, you have to do it fast to put more momentum behind it, but lets start slow to make sure your getting the form right."

He then gives a slow motion example of a jab.

Nash watches her movements both with his eyes and powers. "You need to keep your wrist straight with your lower arm and less loose, other than that your form is not that bad."

Nash does a slow motion jab a few times.

"Why exactly are you wanting to know how to throw a punch?"

"In that case you'll get proper training before they send you anywhere they think you'll need it."

He watches her movements closely.

"It isn't boxer form or anything but it is good for a start. If you want, you can try punching into the bag and working up your speed."

"Yes!" she says enthusiastically. She starts punching the bag and her form is alright, considering she just started. Her upper body strength and her conviction seems to be a bit lacking. She also aims her punches at the outside of the bag instead of aiming for a spot behind it.

"Right now you're aiming your punches to hit the surface of the bag. You need to aim them as if you're trying to reach something further back."

She looks at him weirdly, then at the bag. She testingly pokes her knuckles at the bag, takes half a step forward so her elbow bends a bit, then pulls her arm back and throws a punch.

The sound of the bag being hit is almost immediately followed by an "Oww!" as Teri holds her hand and looks at the bag as it if just bit her.

She couldn't have hurt herself with that punch, what is she...oh!

"If you throw a full strength punch it is going to sting a bit, going to be even worse if you hit a person and not a bag. I probably should have mentioned that, I've never really given advice to a total newbie before."

"That's probably why boxers wear gloves." she says, seeming somewhat proud of that conclusion. "Punching people is probably not something that'll come up anyway. It's just for getting fit."

"If you just want to get fit there are better ways than this, but you'll need to find someone else for that. I could show you how a piece of exercise equipment works, but I don't know enough to come up with some sort of overall exercise plan."
