Sept. 7th: Renegade

[Maya Mills]

"Yeah?" Maya asks. "I think I see your point."

[Jennifer Newgate]

"When you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you. That means things are no longer as scary cause you've become a little like the scary things. Nietzsche said that."

[Maya Mills]

"That's...kind of cool, actually," Maya says.

[Jennifer Newgate]

"Right? Nothing ever scares the ghosts or the vampires or the serial killers in the stories."

[Maya Mills]

Maya nods, "...I don't want to be scared. I really don't."

[Jennifer Newgate]

"Then we'll be the scary ones. Half the class already thinks I'm a freakshow anyway."

[Maya Mills]

"I wish I could stand them a little more," Maya says.

[Jennifer Newgate]

"We can watch some movies with the lights on, bury you under stuffed animals. Training wheels."

[Maya Mills]

Maya smiles, "That might be fun."

[Jennifer Newgate]

"Damn, I wish I had a way to get into the secret room myself. It'd be perfect for that..."

[Maya Mills]

"Secret room?"

[Jennifer Newgate]

"Oh yeah, there's a basement room under the rec center. It has no doors or anything. Murph found it by falling through the floor and Paul got us in. We're fixing it up as a hangout."

[Maya Mills]

"No doors?" Maya asks. "That's weird. There's got to be some way in there. I mean, there's air in it, right?"

[Jennifer Newgate]

"Well yeah. It connects to the air conditioning vents somewhere, I guess."

[Maya Mills]

"You could probably crawl in through those," Maya points out.

[Jennifer Newgate]

"Hmm, maybe if I knew which way to go and then I'd have to go down a level somewhere..."

[Maya Mills]

"...I could turn to smoke. Drift with the current," Maya suggests. "I think."

[Jennifer Newgate]

"Hey, that could work..."

[Maya Mills]

"We could try it. If you want," Maya says. "I really don't want to be alone right now and a secret hiding place sounds really, really nice."

[Jennifer Newgate]

"Sure. Lemme just grab my laptop in case we want to watch some stuff."

[Maya Mills]

"Awesome."
