Issue 1 Downtime

Anika was having a smoke around the garden. Staring up at the sky, she thought for a few moments, taking a long drag from the cigarette. A small smirk crossed her lips as she thought about everything that had transpired so far since she arrived. "Maybe this place isn't so bad." She murmured to herself.

"Oh, hello!" Nina said cheerfully as she stepped out of a hedge.

She was holding a jar of mystery fluid and there were leaves in her hair.

Anika gives a wave with a smile. "Hey there, beautiful. How are things?" She asks, looking the jar over curiously.

Nina beams, "Great! I'm making pigeons. How are you?"

"Making pigeons?" She sounded a bit confused, but waved it off. "Something for science, I'm sure. I'm doin pretty well. Just taking a break and thinking. It's needed every now and then, you know?"

"Of course," Nina says. "I'm often alone with my thoughts. It's usually a bit more involuntary, but..."

"Oh. That's right! I saw you at the party thing," Nina says. "With Ms. Valentine. Did you have a good night?"

"It wasn't bad! The party was pretty nice, I have to admit. I hated being in that stupid dress, but hey. It is what it is, right?" She says with a wink.

"Well thanks." She said with a smile. "You looked pretty damn nice yourself. I saw you arguing with that guy about...what was it about? Particles or something?"

"The Pym particle guy? He was a fool," Nina says. She rolls her eyes. "He thought he could impress me with some basic knowledge. Idiot."

"I don't know what he was expecting from me," Nina says. "Those people confuse me."

Anika gave a shrug. "Can't say I know what a Pym particle is, nor do I really care, but hey, you're the expert on it. If you say he was being dumb, then I believe you. Did you have a good time, though?"

"It was alright," Nina says. She hugs her jar a little tightly. "Kind of wish I had brought a date. There were a lot of couples."

She gives a shrug. "I'm not looking for a serious relationship. If she is, then sucks to be her. She's a damn good lay, I'll give her that. But honestly, fun is all I'm looking for."

"But I do have a jar of pigeon stem cells. So, I have that going for me."

"No shit? I didn't think you'd be a competitive kind of girl. What all do you have to do to win this? Biggest pigeon? Smartest?" She wasn't really *that* interested in it all, but hey, Anika liked contests.

"I wish. Not much to do around here, you know? Getting kind of bored, to be honest. You can only beat the shit out of someone so many times before it gets kind of sad."

"That's an understandable reaction," Nina says. "There is not much to do here. You pretty much have to make your own fun."

She laughs. "Sweet? Bloody hells...far from it. You really think I'm sweet? I'm gonna have to change things up if you're coming to that conclusion." She joked, giving Nina a wink.
