I'll Take the Horseless Perambulator

Though many students might prefer going to London, Maldon provides closer amenities for those without a car or unwilling to pay for a cab. Several pubs are available, though the Rose and Crown is notable for having been where Excalibur spent a good deal of their downtime. Also of note is the Plume Library, home to many rare books.

"This is going to take a while, isn't it." she chuckles. "It's an automatic."

Amanda, blinked as she processed the question and then said "This one is an automatic transmission" she pointed to the shifter "You just set it for Park, Drive or Reverse. If you don't like that, they probably have something with a standard transmission that you have to shift."

"And then this must be the Gee-Pee-Ess, right?" Roland asked, tapping the radio.

Nailah fights back laughter more or less successfully. "Okay, that's not quite how it works. You need to turn it on and put in the address."

"Well, turning it on, makes sense, then," he said, remarkably hitting the power button on the first try.

"Home."

"Okay if you want one with speech recognition you're going to have to spent a little more than this car costs." she says, reaching over from the open passenger door and putting the school's address into the GPS.

"...Right, OK.

So, the address is in the GPS, and I shift it into drive...."

Roland then waited.

Nailah wedges herself into the passenger seat and closes the door. After a few moments she looks over at Roland. "What are you waiting for?"

"Oh, right, of course," Roland said, doing that.

And waiting.

"Why...why hasn't it gone yet? Have I done something wrong with the GPS?"

"The GPS is just....."Amanda paused "Its like having a computer give you directions, instead of having to have a person in the car to read the map for you."

Amanda sighed, praying for a patience. Or a stiff drink. "...oh...Automatic means that the transmission shifts gears by itself, instead of you having to shift. Look by your feet, there is just gas and the brake, no clutch."

"Right, right. I'm not a COMPLETE idiot," he said, suddenly throwing the car in reverse and slamming on the accelerator, followed by the break and a sharp, 180 degree turn, and then shifting it into drive and flooring it again.

"What's the use of a test-drive if you don't find out what the car can do?" Roland said, merging without signalling.

"It'd be great if you could not hit the car that's going to come out of that intersection up ahead though." Nailah relatively calmly points out.
