"Nah, I don't get lonely." She lies with a laugh. "Just something I do. You win a bet, you celebrate. Simple as that. Nothing lonely about it."

"Impossible. Loneliness is a result of a deficiency in oxytocin. It's a motivation to engage in social bonding," Nina says. "If you don't feel loneliness, you must have a unique brain chemistry."

Nina flexes her fingers idly.

She raises a brow. "Really? I uh...can't say I've ever been told that. Granted I've been asked similar things, but we won't get into that." Anika says with a smirk. "What do you want to know?"

"Existence seems a rather low bar," Nina says. "Don't you have any ambition? What's the point of existing if you don't do anything with that existence?"

"I'm here to protect my sister, if you want to get down to it. Nothing more, nothing less." She says with a shrug. "I'm not book smart, so college doesn't work with me well. Sports are nice, yeah, but I wouldn't want to do it for a living."

"I think your dedication to familial bonds is admirable," Nina says. "But it still seems very reactive. If you are concerned primarily about the safety of your sister, it may be more worthwhile to make a world where she will be safe."

"Planned on it, actually." She says quite seriously, taking a drink. "I have a few ideas, but nothing concrete yet. And yeah, you're right. I live more of a reactive lifestyle, I suppose." She gives a shrug.

"Oh good," Nina says. She looks relieved, "I have a tendency to not realize that I'm hurting people. I mean, emotionally. Well, okay, occasionally physically, but I kind of have a better grasp on the physical side of things."

"I am alone though," Nina says. She doesn't sad. More like she's stating facts, "Everyone I have ever cared about has left me to be with someone else. I can only conclude that I have some deficiency or defect beyond acceptable variance."

"Sort of," Nina says. "More of a reflex. My probes rapidly break down alcohol and use it as fuel for replication."

"I can make myself drunk!" Nina says. "It's just a matter of adjusting my brain chemistry. But if I do that, I might as well do something way cooler like flood my brain with hallucinogens or rewire my sensory nerves at random again."
