Gemma had made a shopping trip down to Maldon and stopped to pick up a cup of tea. Now she was just walking the streets, watching people and doing her best to stay out of the way as she enjoyed her tea.

Stephanie, who recognized Gemma as she was washing dishes at the tea and coffee shop where she worked, but hadn't actually served her, came running down the block after her. "Miss! You forgot your card!"

"I did?" She sounded confused, turning to face the approaching person. She opened her wallet and looked, "Man, I must have. That's not like me."

"I'm glad I recognized you from school then," she smiled. "....Gemma right?"

Stephanie was still in her work apron which had her name on it.

"Yeah, that's me," she said, "I think I've seen you around school."

"Nice to finally meet you in the flesh," she smiled. "Trev's talked about you a lot."

That caused her to blush. "Really?"

Steph smiled. It was the reaction she was hoping for from her. "Oh my goodness he won't stop."

"He's a sweet guy. Hopefully he can put up with my... idiosyncrasies."

"He's one of my best friends, so I think -- at least I hope-- he's used to being around a shifter."

"I also scout out new arrivals' powers to recruit people to help tutor my kids or bribe them into joining the teams," she chuckled.

"Well, I'm not really qualified to do either of those."

"Well. Don't discount it so quickly--I'm more interested the former. And it's less tutoring and more...mentoring. It's helpful having people for the kids to talk to about their power control struggles," she smiled.

She raised an eyebrow, "How much did Trev tell you? Or how much did the report say?"

"I don't have access to anything incredibly official on university students so it's mostly word of mouth. And he did say a ton other than that you were a shifter."

Her voice got quiet, "Yeah. Is there somewhere private we can talk? I don't want to just tell you 'no' without an explanation."

"Yeah, absolutely," she nodded "I'm basically the manager at work when the owner is off, so we could definitely talk in the office in the back of the shop if you want." she offered.

"As good a place as any," she said. Once they were behind a closed door, she let out a sigh, "I'm a transfer from Muir. I would like to help, but I honestly don't think I'm in any position to actually help anyone."

Steph nodded reassuringly, "Okay. I can totally understand your reluctance. But don't sell yourself too short. The fact that you're no longer at Muir means you're in a much better place in terms of control."

"I won't hound you about it, but keep the idea in the back of your head," she smiled.

"I'm not sure my sister's motorcycle would agree with you in terms of my control." Still, she was smiling.

"I'd like to say it was mostly my other half's fault, but my doctor said that's just an excuse."

"Mine exists to be a talkative bitch who is assured of her own awesomeness."

Steph smirked, "Mine has a filthy mouth and a competitive streak a mile wide. Glad to know I'm not the only one who fights with herself on occasion."

"Mine usually tends to take control when I shift, which is fine and all in some ways. She's started asserting herself in this form though, so I'm a little hopeful that means things are improving."

"It helped me a lot to talk with the headmistress--she's psychic and was able to let both of my halves sort of talk to each other directly."

"That might be interesting. We have conversations, but they're sort of one-sided for the rest of the world."

"It helped me a whole lot. Started me on the right path at least," she nodded. "Before I did it I could barely control myself. There was no telling when I would shift, and I could barely control what I was doing."

"She's remarkably interested in lounging in the sun or on large piles of gold. She lacks some... social restraint though."

"Fair enough," she chuckled.

She paused for a moment, looking for perhaps the right words to say. "So...I'm sorry to be so nosy...but what do you think of Trev?"

"He's an amazing guy. Zero confidence. Definitely tries too hard. I think you'll be glad there's a second date," she smiled. "But," she elaborated by signing that her lips were sealed. "Won't mention anything to him if I see him."

"I do find that hard to believe," she said with a chuckle.

"I might have to extort something out of him to not show you our high school yearbook from before we went to Xavier's when it was still in New York."
