Danger room: new student initiation

The course wasn't too scary. There were a few columns that popped up to divert her direction, and a few fans interspersed to ease her into vapor-shifting, if she was ready.

[Maya Mills]

Maya paused at the edge of the first column and looked down at the fan. She hesitates briefly while trying to psyche herself up.

I can do this. Come on. I'm not going to die horribly in a freak Danger Room fan accident. I hope.

With a great deal of concentration, Maya manages to briefly shift into a cloud of vapor. The fan lifts her high into the air.

Where she suddenly shifts back by accident and starts plummeting to the ground.

Oh god, oh god, I'm going to be chunky salsa.

Maya lets out a terrified scream.

That seems to rouse Jennifer out of whatever stupor she spends most of her time in and she runs out towards Maya, both arms stretched out towards her. A shimmering forcefield appears just below Maya, slowing her down slightly and disappearing again almost immediately on impact. Then another flickers into existence a little lower, attempting to catch her again. And again. And again. Finally Maya would come to a stop just above Jennifer who has her eyes closed and her arms stretched up, creating a stable forcefield that's holding up Maya.

A panicked looking Maya pants, looking very surprised she's not dead.

"Thanks," Maya manages to say.

[Jennifer Newgate]

Jennifer opens one eye, then the other. Seeing that everything is, in fact, fine she seems to go back to her usual self.

"See. I told you you probably wouldn't get mauled."

[Maya Mills]

"Yeah. There was clearly nothing to worry about."

[Byrna Cooper]

"Just a little surprising, that's all."

Bear walked over, and gave Maya a hug.

"Thanks for being brave, and trying it out."

She went back to the panel, resetting the room.

[Winifred Winters]

"Which is a nice way of saying you're a failure," Winn says. "But, please, enjoy the participation ribbon."

[Byrna Cooper]

"How about you, Winn? Ready to give it a shot? You don't need to stay if you don't feel like participating."

[Winifred Winters]

"Can't do any worse then the Fall Girl," Winn says with a shrug. She steps forward, "I'll give it a shot."

Bear typed on her control pad, dimming the lights and generating several black, difficult to see walls which would work well with Winn's glowy abilities.

Winn is...well, she's actually pretty good unfortunately. While it would be great to see her get smacked down, she was actually pretty acrobatic.

She was also ridiculously reckless and only barely missed getting hit by some wall or pillar or something. She missed the hard to see walls mostly by a mix of luck and quick reflexes.

"Ta-da," Winn says sarcastically as she reaches the finish line.

Bear nodded, with a knowing smile. She saw a little bit of herself in Winn.

"And that, students, is the Danger Room. Don't think of it as a scary place where the X-Men first robots and get hurt, because that is not what it is, All it is is a tool, something that you are in complete control of. Any questions?"
