Danger Room: Our Arrows Will Blot Out The Sun

[Graham Jaeger]

Graham stood in an open field, testing the tautness of his simulated compound bow as he waited for Mini-Murphy.

Murphy walked into the room, looking rather cocky.

"Ready to get your butt whooped, Graham?"

[Graham Jaeger]

"Why get ready for what won't happen?" he smirked, at least as cockily.

[Jean-Louise Murphy]

"And here I thought you were, like, the ultimate boy scout. 'Be prepared' and all that junk."

Murphy loads up a bow for herself, tweaking and customizing expertly.

[Graham Jaeger]

"Training under an Olympic gold medalist obsessed with wilderness survival for almost a decade is preparation enough for this," he smirked.

[Jean-Louise Murphy]

Murphy yawns dramatically, "Yeah. I'll bet it was real tough surviving in the deep wilds of Michigan."

[Graham Jaeger]

"Well then, time to put up or shut up," he grinned. "The room is set to generate randomized pop-up targets for thirty seconds. The most bulls-eyes wins. Challenger gets the option to go first."

[Jean-Louise Murphy]

"Alright, are you going to go first then?" Murphy teases.

[Graham Jaeger]

"I distinctly remember you betting you were the better shot."

[Jean-Louise Murphy]

"Yeah, 'cause I'm the champion," Murphy says. "Which makes you the challenger."

[Graham Jaeger]

"Well then... ladies first, I insist," he smirked.

[Jean-Louise Murphy]

"Fine," Murphy says. readying an arrow, "Start anytime."

[Graham Jaeger]

"Computer. Begin in three."

"Three... two... one," the system announced. At one, the first target popped up with a bang.

[Jean-Louise Murphy]

Murphy was a good shot and she was incredibly fast and agile when it came to hitting the targets. Unfortunately, her small size was definitely going to be a factor in the competition. She had a smaller range than someone with more muscle mass and as a result she missed a few of the more distant targets.

[Graham Jaeger]

When she finished, he tried not to smirk too much.

"Not bad. Not bad."

[Jean-Louise Murphy]

"Like you could do better," Murphy says, full of false bravado.

[Graham Jaeger]

"Start my countdown and I'll show you."

[Jean-Louise Murphy]

"Alright...on thre - GO!" Murphy shouts, starting the timer.

[Graham Jaeger]

Graham's awkward excuse for bravado was replaced by calm focus by the time he quickly notched his first arrow. He worked through the close targets with ruthless efficiency, reloading by the time each new target appeared. He lost momentum with having to spend more time aiming at more distant targets but he was still quick.

"All but one... Damn..."

All hit, but only one shot wasn't a bulls-eye.

[Jean-Louise Murphy]

"You missed one," Murphy points out cheerfully.

[Graham Jaeger]

"Still made more than you," he countered sharply. He really hated imperfect shooting.

[Jean-Louise Murphy]

"Yeah, but I miss all the time," Murphy says. "Doesn't bother me."

[Graham Jaeger]

He calmed a little.

"Hazards of being taught by a perfectionist."

[Jean-Louise Murphy]

"Well, you still won. You should be happy!" Murphy says, playfully pushing him.

[Graham Jaeger]

"Yeah, I totally schooled you," he teased, her attitude rubbing off.

[Jean-Louise Murphy]

"Want to go get something to eat or something?" Murphy asks. She brushes a stray strand of hair out of her eyes. "You know. To celebrate?"

[Graham Jaeger]

"Sure. Sounds great," he answered, clueless of the flirting.

[Jean-Louise Murphy]

"Awesome," Murphy says. "I'll go get showered and changed. Meet you out front in like fifteen?"

[Graham Jaeger]

"Sure thing."
