Power Training: New semester

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

It probably looks like it's trying to escape, it's legs wriggling a bit on her skin but apparently she's trying her best to hold it back from manifesting again.

This is like that nursery rhyme.
Oh shut up!!!

Paul glanced around quickly, seeing the eyes on him. Shooting an over-suspicious look at Elise, he slumped back in his seat, scowling. First class. Already look like an idiot. Juuuuust like home...

Elise looks like she's about to burst out crying. This was extremely embarrassing to her. She may be bubbly and happily in personality, but she did *not* like attention on her. It freaked her out.

She pulls an armband out from her pocket and hurries to slide it over top of the tattoo while attempting to make her way out of the room.

What, are you gonna cry? You're such a baby. Grow up.

She doesn't even answer it now.

Ryan headed her off at the door, sort of nonchalantly putting a hand on her shoulder and turning her back toward her seat. "I think we're mostly all here. Anyone who's a little late won't miss much," Ryan said, "So I think it's time to get started. If you look under your seats, you're going to find your Danger Room access information for the new year. Copy it down, you'll need that password to log in for training the first time."

"It's all right. These things happen. Just sit back down and don't make a big deal out of it, trust me," he whispered under his breath to Elise while everyone was digging under their seats.

And so she slides back over to her seat, head low. She pulls out her notebook and begins to copy the information. Once finished, she sort of just tunes things out and begins doodling on the piece of paper.

(As usual, if your character is late, say so, otherwise we'll assume they were on time)

Ryan shot a smile to Steph as he took a seat on the rock again. "Now... while you do that, for those of you who are new, I'm Ryan Gabriel, and welcome to Power Training class. I'll be one of your instructors, and if there's anything you need, any problem you have, you can come to us with it. Our job is not to make a huge issue out of it and get you in trouble. There are plenty of other instructors for that."

"And for those of you who were here last year, welcome back, and I hope you did your homework. I want to make sure the start of this year goes more smoothly than the start of last year."

Steph set the cookies and water down on a rock that made a good table and joined Ryan up front of the class. She was wearing her training uniform as well, her hair tied back into a functional ponytail.

"And I'm Stephanie Kaltiera. Ryan and I are thrilled to be back again teaching power control," she said warmly.

"First, let's get some boring basic stuff out of the way. Now that you've got your information, you need to log in to see your development page. I'm going to give you a few minutes to do that," Ryan said. He took a moment and showed them how to pull up the Danger Room's holodisplays and where to log in. "Everyone who was here last year will recognize the benchmark page. For those of you that don't, take a look at it. It's going to have the ways to log your current power control and ability metrics, and to map out your progress. We can add fields later if you need it. Your assignment before next class is to make sure it's filled out, and to fill out the next page with your goals. They can be anything... a straight up numbers increase, to something more abstract. If you need ideas, let me know, and we can talk about it after class."

((and yes... if people could let me know their character's PC goals, and how the returning characters have progressed over the summer, I'd appreciate it))

Haley's Goals:

TP: Suck less. Try to only have awkward thoughts-broadcasting to the whole room happen once a month tops.

TK: Lift and hold one ton for ten minutes.

She may have been aiming a bit high.

"Do try to take things seriously," Stephanie said, making a point to not look at Christine, who she most certainly heard, and trying extremely hard not to comment on her word choice. "Even if you think you have great control over your powers, or you don't need to have control, it's important to know what you can do, and what your classmates can do. Power accidents happen. And powers can change. Just ask Ryan here about that."

Elise looked up from her doodle for a moment and accessed the page.

Code: Select all
Elise's Goals:
Get another tattoo and learn to control it
Learn to fly better
Try to keep Frankie from bullying me or anyone else
Figure out where Frankie is from

Once she finished, she hit enter and looked back down to her doodle.

And I thought we were friends.
Not when you're mean.
You think I'm being mean? You haven't seen anything yet, little girl.

She furrows her brows and furiously begins to doodle again.

Postby Ryan Gabriel » Tue Oct 14, 2014 2:21 am

"Now, I want you to all look around," Ryan said, after he'd given everyone some time to think things over. "Everyone in this room has their problems. Some people have learned to deal with them. Some are still working. So let's get a few things out in the open right now."

"First of all, the absolute worst thing you can do for yourself is hide it when you have a problem," he said, having zero doubt that it would be disregarded. "This goes hand in hand with the second point: The people in this room with you right now are your best tools for working through things, teachers and classmates. Don't waste them."

"Now... Take some time to get used to the Danger Room options. I've got the program sectioned off so you can run separate programs in different areas. It'll tell you where to go for your 'own' space. If you need any help or have a question, we're right here."

Paul walked around as he looked at his programs. "What's... avoidance training? What's that supposed to mean?" And, not seeing anything better to do, he called up the program, and was directed about ten feet from the group. "Okay, what am I- AH!" He spun around, looking annoyed, as a tennis ball flew out of nowhere and hit him in the back of the head. "Are you kidding me?"

She doesn't seem too thrilled at Ryan's answer, but she doesn't complain out loud.

This is going to be hilarious.
I'm better at it than you think.
Sure, and pigs can fly. Oh wait. You've proven that.

She winces. Low blow. After Frankie's reassuring words, she tears the doodle out and folds it, slipping it into her pocket before standing and making her way to her designated corner. She passes Haley, giving her a bit of an excited wave. Seems her spirits were lifted a bit just by seeing her bee eff eff. Once there in her corner, she hesitantly asks the Danger Room for a bungee-jump-over-a-bridge scenario. It gives her that, the cliff seems to go on forever, showing no sight of a bottom.

"...Stellar." There was no sarcasm in that. She actually looks thrilled.

Paul, meanwhile, had tennis balls pelting at him. He was trying to jump through portals fast enough to avoid them, but he was still getting tagged, and really wasn't having enough time after exiting to do more than blindly jump, occasionally into the path of another ball. Oh fuck you, this sucks...
