Research Propositions

[Sara Stanton]

Sara is barely through the door when she starts shouting.

"Will? Will! You are never going to believe what just happened!"

[Will Stanton]

"Hrm?" Will said, from around the corner.

"Try me."

[Sara Stanton]

"They offered me a research grant!"

[Will Stanton]

"Who did what now?"

[Sara Stanton]

"The government! For my paper! Or, well, to keep working in that direction."

[Will Stanton]

"That's...that's fantastic!"

[Sara Stanton]

"Well it would mean continuing to experiment on you. And I know you think that's exciting and all but I want you to really think about this..."

[Will Stanton]

"I'd love to have a long coversation about this, but I've gotta get ready for a commercial shoot."

[Sara Stanton]

"Another one? Is it at least a less awful one this time?"

[Will Stanton]

"We'll find out soon enough, I suppose."

[Sara Stanton]

"You know... If I take this grant you wouldn't have to do these horrible ads anymore."

[Will Stanton]

"Don't feel like you have to do anything you don't want to..."

[Sara Stanton]

"I don't. I just feel like this shouldn't be my decision alone."

[Will Stanton]

"I'd love to stay and chat, but I really don't want to get on any of these director's bad sides--that wasn't pleasant last time."

[Sara Stanton]

"Can't you just pass on this one? This is important..."

[Will Stanton]

"Depends. Do you want to buy diapers for Robin, or not?"

[Sara Stanton]

"But if we take this we could! You wouldn't have to do those horrible jobs anymore..."

[Will Stanton]

"Sara, whatever you think is best," Will sighed, putting on his coat.

[Sara Stanton]

"I can't make this decision by myself, Will..." she almost pleads.

[Will Stanton]

Will glanced at his watch. "Take it, then. I'll make an arbitrary decision..."

[Sara Stanton]

"I know you're okay with the experiments. Just tell me you're fine with us not having a say in holding anything we find back."

[Will Stanton]

"What do you mean?"

[Sara Stanton]

"They'd have the right to look at any results, whether we like it or not. It feels like that might be important considering we'd be researching you. I dunno, I just feel like maybe we'd find things that are too private to just hand over."

[Will Stanton]

"...what do they want to know?"

[Sara Stanton]

"They just want me to continue my research. I guess we could be careful about what experiments we do in the first place..."

[Will Stanton]

"I trust you."

[Sara Stanton]

"And I hate watching you degrade yourself for Robin and me week after week..."

[Will Stanton]

Will just shrugged at that.

[Sara Stanton]

"Let's do it then. This... this is a once in a lifetime opportunity."

[Will Stanton]

"OK! Great! Glad to see everything's working out.

Gotta dash!"

[Sara Stanton]

"Wait, you're still going to do another one of those ads?"

[Will Stanton]

"They haven't paid you yet, have they?"

[Sara Stanton]

"Well no, but..."

[Will Stanton]

"You wanna eat, right?"

[Sara Stanton]

"Just... I hate that you have to do it."

[Will Stanton]

"Welp."

[Sara Stanton]

"Okay, but it's the last one you'll ever have to do."

[Will Stanton]

"We'll see about that," Will winked.
