A Backdated Scene

Roland entered the danger room and started a program, entering a wide open field, with smoke rising in the distance.

He unwrapped a long, brown parcel he was carrying and removed a sword, holding it up to the light to examine it.

"I suppose it would only be proper," Sean chuckled before vanishing from the observation deck, a hiss being heard a few moments later as he entered the danger room. After taking a few steps in he performed a rather exaggerated bow.

"Passable with that kind of sword, so I don't often poke myself full of holes," Sean said, "Much better with a fencing sword. I've been learning that the two skill sets don't overlap as much as I thought."

"Lesson two, is easy," he said, suddenly lashing out with a kick to Sean's chest.

"Defend yourself!"

Sean had not been expecting a kick and just about tripped over himself as he was knocked backward.

"Ow," Sean said, "I... am... the wielder of the wickedness of warring stars."

The air crackled as a blade of light formed in one hand while the other was held to his chest.

"Let's see what you've got," Roland smiled, lowering his sword into a defensive position.

Sean smiled and advanced cautiously towards Roland his footwork that looked like an awkward blend of fencing and martial arts. Sean then performed an equally cautious downward chop at Roland's shoulder.

"I'll try my very best to not disappoint you, Professor," Sean said.

Roland easily parried that away.

"Come on, go like you mean it."

Sean got over his trepidation and took a two handed grip on his blade. He swung again this time the blade parallel to the ground hoping that some extra power would make a difference.

"Last time somebody said that I ended up with a dislocated shoulder," Sean grunted.

"Braggadocio," Roland said, sidestepping and parrying with practiced ease.

Sean tried a fairly obvious feint by feigning another two-handed swing to try and get a lunge past Roland's guard.

"Well, I'm certainly not all that feeling superior right now," Sean grunted. "How long have you been doing this?"

"About 35 seconds now," he smirked, dodging Sean's attack. "And I've learned a couple things"

"You must be a natural then," Sean said before attempting an upward swing across Roland's body fully intending to follow it up with a down slash.

"And what's that?" Sean asked before taking another swing at Roland.

Roland stuck his hand out; Sean's sword penetrated into it, and Roland actually took a step forward now that Sean's sword was temporarily stuck.

"There's always someone better," he said, attempting to strike Sean's wrist with the hilt of his sword, trying to get him to let go of his own sword.

Sean let go of his sword so Roland's strike didn't break his wrist.

"Never seem to know until it's too late," Sean said backing up quickly his hands up in a defensive posture.
