Dt10: Kicked Out of the Kitchen

[Onyx]

"That is awful," Onyx says, "I can't understand that sort of mindset."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Well, you sort of just proved them right, no?"

[Onyx]

"How do you figure, ma'am?"

[Nailah Weaver]

"You decided that enslaving them would solve things and implied their disagreement was unreasonable."

[Onyx]

"Their freedom hurts society as a whole."

[Nailah Weaver]

"It's that freedom our society is built on though. Otherwise they could just as well enslave us."

[Onyx]

"Does it matter who the masters are if they're kind and benevolent?" Onyx asks.

[Nailah Weaver]

"Not everyone would be and there's no way to make sure."

[Onyx]

"If you say so, ma'am."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Believe me, I wish it was that easy. And sometimes it certainly feels like they might not deserve their freedom, but that way of thinking makes for... less than kind and benevolent masters."

[Onyx]

"I would not know, ma'am," Onyx says, "My masters and mistresses have always been very kind."

[Nailah Weaver]

"They're out there..." she mumbles, more to herself really.

[Onyx]

"Forgive me, I know it is not my place to ask but, did you have a bad experience, ma'am?" Onyx asks.

[Nailah Weaver]

"You could say I spend a short time in your shoes against my will. Though she didn't even leave me the option to speak out of turn."

[Onyx]

"Some do prefer silence," Onyx agrees.

[Nailah Weaver]

"It was terrifying nonetheless."

[Onyx]

"I am sorry that it was terrible for you, ma'am," Onyx says, "I can certainly understand how it would be."

"After all, you did not have the proper training or experience. It was probably very traumatizing to be put in that position without being introduced to it from a young age."

[Nailah Weaver]

Nailah clenches her fist and takes a deep breath.

"And it's better to do the same to kids?"

[Onyx]

"Children are more adaptable, ma'am," Onyx says, "They also have lower telepathic resistance. They are ideal candidates for training."

"Nine out of ten children adapt to the training with no significant hardships or mental trauma," Onyx says, "Only three out of ten adults do the same."

[Nailah Weaver]

"And would you wish that on anybody?"

[Onyx]

"It is not my place to make those decisions, ma'am."

[Nailah Weaver]

"I'm asking you though."

[Onyx]

"I have no opinion of my own, ma'am."

[Nailah Weaver]

"Of course not, that'd be crazy."

[Onyx]

Onyx just picks at her food in silence.

"I just hope you mean it when you say you're happy like this."
