I9DT, Aug 20 - I Asked Him to Civil Union Me! (He Said Yes)

[Rick Ferguson]

Rick headed into Il Siciliano with Marcus. It had been quite a while since they had eaten here, but today was a special day, for a lot of reasons.

[Marcus Kingston]

"Aw man. I love the food here," he said as the thought of the food was almost mouth watering.

[Rick Ferguson]

"Me too, love." They were seated and given menus. "So, I guess we can't say that we tied the knot per se, but...well, I can't think of any other useful allegories right now. To halfway tying the knot, then!," he said with a grin, clinking his glass of water to Marcus's.

[Marcus Kingston]

He chuckled. "Yeah. No kidding. Makes for quite the birthday present in a way." He smiled. "Now we have Mary...it kind of feels like we're really getting further away from that horrible future."

[Rick Ferguson]

"Another step further away, yeah. To Mary." He clinked his glass against Marcus's once more.

[Marcus Kingston]

Marcus smiled and took a sip of the water. "It's kinda funny. I would of never expected things to turn out like this."

[Rick Ferguson]

He thought about that for a second. "Seeing the future is a rare gift. Even if what we saw was bad, we've helped make the world a much better place than it would have been. I wouldn't care to revisit that world, but I'm thankful for seeing what mistakes there were that needed correcting. You know?" They places appetizer and wine orders, with Rick ordering a glass of Pinot Noir.

[Marcus Kingston]

Marcus swirled the water around in his glass before giving a nod of agreement. "Yeah. I know what you mean. I mean..beyond that too. Just being here in Europe. Finding a relationship in school...still being in it..and now even having a kid." He laughed. "My mom used to make me feel guilty about not being able to give her grandchildren."

[Rick Ferguson]

"So we'll be bringing Maggie with us to Seattle in November. That should be interesting. Let's hope she doesn't think it'd be really funny to turn herself into water on the plane."

[Marcus Kingston]

The thought of that did make him laugh..and also a little afraid. "Oh boy. I didn't even think about that. How in the world are we going to uh...deal with her turning into water suddenly? Especially if we're on the move.." He asked, kinda perplexed. "We should of really talked to our future selves more about this."

[Rick Ferguson]

"Neither of them had to deal with her as a baby," he pointed out. "Maybe we can find someone willing to do a long-distance teleport for us? I dunno, I'll check around."

[Marcus Kingston]

"That's right." He chuckled. "I'm actually kinda of scared about this now." He said though there was a smile on his face.

"I mean..she could totally turn into water and absorb into her diaper.." The thought actually kind of freaked him out but he chuckled at it regardless.

[Rick Ferguson]

"...yeah, she totally sank into her bedding for a minute while you were out getting groceries the yesterday. I was really panicking for a minute before she flowed back out and reformed. And then giggled like crazy, because, you know, scaring your father is the funniest thing ever. But, that's why we got maintenance to install those stoppers in the shower and faucets. Let's just hope she doesn't get too creative," he said, shaking his head.

[Marcus Kingston]

He laughed. "How adorable..and terrifying."

"Ah!" He placed his hands to his head. "Okay. Just give me a moment to come terms with the fact that Mary's gonna be scaring me to death for the next several years to come."

[Rick Ferguson]

He chuckled. "I know, right? Like I said, though, she can't keep the water form for very long. The Mutant Pediatrics doctor we have here didn't seem to be too worried about anything like that, so long as she doesn't find somewhere that's easy to flow out from. And I think I got that covered."

[Marcus Kingston]

He sighed, finally relaxing a little. "This is gonna be quite the ride. Doesn't change the fact that I absolutely love her already."

[Rick Ferguson]

"Me neither. And if it helps, keep in mind that up until she was six, I think, she was living in Venice. Granted, the orphanage wasn't right on the canal, but it would've been easy for her to find some place to melt away if she wanted."

[Marcus Kingston]

"This is true. All we've got is what...The Thames? As long as we're careful, she'll be fine." He said, though it seemed like words set more on reassuring himself than Rick. He smiled and reached out, grabbing Rick's forearm and just holding onto it. "In any case...I was just thinking how things couldn't get much better than they are."

[Rick Ferguson]

"Yep." He smiled back. "I'll work on getting some wedding invitations sent out soon too, by the way."

[Marcus Kingston]

"Nice. Reminds me..we'll have to pick out all the 'Best Persons'? I hope Victoria is able to come."

[Rick Ferguson]

"Hopefully, as long as it doesn't interfere with an important ritual day or something."

[Marcus Kingston]

He chuckled. "Hopefully not. I still think she'd try to make it."

[Rick Ferguson]

"Probably so. Ooh, I think that's our appetizer!"

"Man. It's looking good already."
