I10DT - You don't have to be crazy to work here...

Postby Samantha McManus » Tue Aug 07, 2012 12:38 pm

"Thank you for coming with me, love. I know this isn't easy," she said as she got out of the car. For the sake of appearances, she was dressed quite a bit more like a headmistress was expected to, in a women's suit.

"Better than waiting to hear back." she says, stretching a little as she eyes the fenced in building.

"The lack of details is disconcerting," she said as she headed for the security checkpoint.

"No. Of course that doesn't help."

The guards seem to be expecting them and instead of asking for an ID wave them through what looks like an oversized metal-detector arch.

Samantha, having been to the facility before, walked through without much pause.

A short stretch of road and an air-lock later and they're inside, where Dr. Klein is already waiting for them.

"Thank god you're here. The ward is down here..."

The place looks like a bright and sterile hospital for the most part. If it wasn't for the locks and the occasional reinforced steel door. And once they're away from the entrance hall Sam would notice the psi-shielding come into effect. Further ahead the hallway branches off to the side and a warm, almost humid breath of air cuts through the air-conditioned hall.

"At least we know the way by now," she commented to Nailah, frowning at the oddness of it all as she walked.

"Something I could do without..." she mumbles. She's grown rather quiet in general since they entered the facility. "I have a bad feeling about this."

"That's not what I mean. Something is seriously wrong... here..." she trails off as they get to the intersection.

The hallway that's branching of is dark. Like that part of the facility was stuck in the night-time.

It's hard to really get a good feel for anything down that way, though it does feel vaguely familiar, like a half-forgotten song echoing and gurgling up from a well.

Now that they're closer they can also tell that this is where the warm air is coming from, filled with a faint smell of ozone and iron.

"Not even remotely..." she says, looking rather pale as she stares down the hallway.

Something in the darkness groans like twisting metal.

"And even if she was, they said the dampeners were holding..."

She girded her defenses, and started probing further down the hallway.

Once she steps into the hall the daylight behind her seems to just... disappear. And as her eyes adjust to the darkness the walls seem strange. Flaking paint, rust blooming on a nearby door and the smell grows almost tangible, the air feeling thick and wet. Behind her Nailah looks like she's fading and wavering until she follows Sam into the hall, making her less... blurry. Somewhere something is dripping.

There is... something permeating everything, though it's not exactly telepathic in nature. It's more of that feeling of being watched though the hallway is rather empty as far as they can tell. They're almost to Mel's cell when something warm and somewhat gooey hits Sam's hand.

It offers no resistance and falls to the ground with a wet splut. A moment later a couple smaller drops land next to it, narrowly missing Sam. And with it comes the smell of blood wafting through the corridor.

The ceiling seems to be almost coated in blood to the point where one has to wonder how it is staying there, much less where it came from. Here and there unidentifiable... chunks are scattered around.

As they get to Mel's door (which still appears to be firmly locked, if coated in rust) they'd notice the symbols scrawled on the walls. Strange motifs and angles that feel like they're going to shift the moment you stop looking, some of them seeming impossible to reproduce for a sane mind.

Something whispers from somewhere, too quiet to make out words.

"But why..." Nailah glances up again and despite the door still being locked she hopes, for just a moment, that she's the source of the gore. Quite understandable, all things considered, but it's a thought coming from a dark place and the air around them almost seems to ripple in response.

She takes a deep breath, even though the air feels disgusting. "I know. It's..." Her eyes snap to something behind Sam and when she'd follow her stare she'd catch the glimpse of a tiny figure and a grin that takes up too much of it's face.

The next moment it's just... gone. At least that particular manifestation because the hallway still reeks of it's presence.
