Orientation: The Gym ((Open))

[Oka Aina]

Oka had joined the orientation for the facilities mostly to see the gym. He had not used one since prior to his mutation revealing itself and found the place comforting despite the fact that he knew lots of people were likely to be using it during the actual school year.

After the staff person talked about the various benefits of the facility and how it was tailored to both relatively normal students and those whose abilities required a bit more 'oomph' they were left to lookg around. Oka found himself grabbing a set of weights that somebody had left on the floor and began putting them back on the rack. He didn't really seem to notice that he was easily lifting an amount that was generally better suited for an olympic lifter.

[Dana Lawrence]

"You are very strong," Dana says, standing right behind Oka.

[Oka Aina]

Oka nearly lost his grip on the weight he'd been holding. Fortunately for the floor and quite likely one of his feet he didn't drop it.

"A..Aloha auina la, Dana," Oka said, "I suppose it is?"

[Dana Lawrence]

"Are you naturally that strong or is it part of your physical mutation?" Dana asks.

[Oka Aina]

Oka looked at the weight for a moment and at the numbers on the side.

"I couldn't lift this much in the gym back at school," Oka said, "So p-probably my mutation."

[Dana Lawrence]

"Why are you stuttering? Are you cold?"

[Oka Aina]

"I...this...I'm not really," Oka said trying to find the right words, "I'm not comfortable with other people."

[Dana Lawrence]

"Is it because of how ugly you are?" Dana says, "Because it does not bother me. I have a tendency to have difficulty registering faces. At least yours is memorable."

[Oka Aina]

"That's...well that's good..I guess," Oka said, "I-I just keep expecting somebody to come with torches or pitchforks."

[Dana Lawrence]

"Frankenstein. I see the connection," Dana says, "However, the torches and pitchforks were actually only established in the 1931 movie which deviated from the plot of the original novel."

"You do not strike me as the Monster though," Dana says, "The monster was emotional and childlike. Very outwardly focused. You are more of a coward."

[Oka Aina]

Oka flinched when Dana called him a coward.

"That's probably accurate," Oka said, "...I wouldn't have agreed with you before I changed."

[Dana Lawrence]

"Why not? I am right," Dana says, "Did your personality change as well?"

[Oka Aina]

"No, maybe a little," Oka said, "Maybe it's just a...different perspective when you get several feet taller, weight, and start looking like something out of a horror movie. I don't really know it used to be easy to talk to people, go cliff diving, and that k-kind of thing."

[Dana Lawrence]

"That is stupid," Dana says, "If anything all of those activities would be easier. You are probably far more durable for cliff diving and your monstrous appearance would let you intimidate most people you talk with."

[Oka Aina]

"I don't think intimidating people is what I had in mind," Oka said, "But I think I see your point..."

[Dana Lawrence]

Dana starts to respond but no words come out of her mouth. She just stands there staring blankly, her body tensing up.

And then she falls face forward, hitting the ground hard. Her sunglasses falling off her face and clattering next to her.

[Oka Aina]

"Dana?!" Oka asked sounding a bit freaked out by Dana collapsing for no apparent reason. He knelt down and tried to roll Dana over.

Dana grabs onto Oka's arm, pulling herself back up. Without her sunglasses on Oka can see her eyes are extremely bloodshot.

"M'fine," Dana says, her words slightly slurred, "Sunglasses."

[Oka Aina]

Oka reached for her sunglasses.

"When was the last time you slept?" Oka asked sounding a bit concerned.

[Dana Lawrence]

"I said I am fine," Dana says, taking great care to pronounce each word separately. She holds out her hand for her sunglasses, "Trust me."

[Oka Aina]

"You just collapsed though," Oka said before handing Dana her sunglasses. "That can't be healthy. This is one of those things we don't want to talk about isn't it?"

[Dana Lawrence]

Dana puts her sunglasses on, "I do not know what you are talking about."

[Oka Aina]

"Why you collapsed and why it isn't a big deal," Oka said.

[Dana Lawrence]

Dana stands up, "I tripped."

[Oka Aina]

Oka actually chuckled.

"I guess you'll have to be more careful," Oka said, "Or you'll start getting carried around."

[Dana Lawrence]

"I would avoid carrying around small girls if you wish to avoid provoking mob response," Dana says.

[Oka Aina]

"Good point," Oka said, "And this mob can shoot lasers from their eyes."

[Dana Lawrence]

"Actually, only a very small percentage of the student body or faculty can do that."

[Oka Aina]

"That at least makes me think it would end slightly better," Oka said, "Or at least without me filled with holes"

[Dana Lawrence]

"Do not misunderstand, there are a variety of energy projectors on campus," Dana says, "Just very few that focus that energy ocularly."

[Oka Aina]

"The more you know," Oka said, "You really did investigate the school didn't you?"

[Dana Lawrence]

"Yes," Dana says, "I did."

[Oka Aina]

"Much more in depth than the rest of us," Oka said, "Why?"

[Dana Lawrence]

"In case I ever need to destroy any of you, I will be ready," Dana says.

[Oka Aina]

'"Really?" Oka asked.

[Dana Lawrence]

"No," Dana says, "That was a joke."

[Oka Aina]

"My sense of humor must be broken," Oka said.

[Dana Lawrence]

"A sudden lack of humor can be indicative of brain injury or disease," Dana says, "You should probably get that checked out."

[Oka Aina]

"That is why I wasn't sure if you were joking or not," Oka smiled.

[Dana Lawrence]

"Because you lack a sense of humor?"
