Getting a Feel for the Place (open thread)

[Maggie Ferguson]

Maggie had just arrived at Xavier's that morning, and left her information and belongings at the front desk. She was told to come back in a couple of hours for her room assignment, so for now, she wandered the grounds, taking in the warmth of the sun and letting the time pass on by.

[Brigid Plunder]

A girl dressed in clothing that said she really didn't want her body looked at was walking in the quad.

She seemed friendly enough though, and gave Maggie a wave as she neared.

[Maggie Ferguson]

Maggie waved back and continued on, sine the path she was meandering down was heading toward the other girl's direction anyway. She was pressed very casually for her part; jeans, tennis shows and a Calgary United F.C. t-shirt.

"Hey. Did you decide to enjoy the weather too?"

[Zeryn]

By contrast, the RA, as he walked through the campus from the rec center, muttering something about 'perfectly safe' seemed to be perfectly fine with people looking at him (as the leather pants he had on were all he wore). Granted, the eleven-inch shark that was floating ahead of him in a bubble of water probably drew more attention than he did.

[Brigid Plunder]

"Might as well before classes, yeah."

"I'm Brigid. You just arrive?"

She had a faint accent, but it was hard to place.

[Maggie Ferguson]

"Brigid? That's my grandmother's name, or close to it." She smiled. "I'm Maggie, good to meet ya. And yeah, I just got here not too long ago. Decided to wander a bit while they processed me."

She glanced over at Zeryn, taking in his whole appearance. "I've never been anywhere quite like this. It's exciting," she said aside to Brigid.

[Brigid Plunder]

"Oh, him? He's the RA. He's... er... from Atlantis."

[Maggie Ferguson]

"Wow, really? I've never met an Atlantian before. But I guess they don't ever have much of a reason to visit rural northwest Alberta, either."

[Brigid Plunder]

"Mostly near the ocean, yeah."

[Maggie Ferguson]

"Heh, I guess I must sound like a hick or something."

[Brigid Plunder]

"Heh, you've got nothing to worry about. People come from all around, here."

[Maggie Ferguson]

"I guess so. There probably aren't too many schools like this...especially ones that have been around for this long. It feels like I got accepted into an exclusive boarding school, you know?," she said with a smile.

"So, where are you from, originally?"

[Brigid Plunder]

"That's... kind of hard to explain. It's really far South. Most people haven't heard of it."

[Maggie Ferguson]

"Most places are pretty far to the south to me. It must be nice to live somewhere with that much more warmth and sunshine all around, though."

[Brigid Plunder]

"Yeah, I... guess you could say that." She smiled nervously, and suddenly found Zeryn to be Very Interesting.

[Alex Carpenter]

And while she was focused on Zeryn (seriously, that dude was walking a SHARK?), Alex walked up very quietly behind Brigid, making a 'shhhh' gesture to Maggie if he needed to, until he was close enough to say 'Boo!' close to her ear.

Maggie grinned but tried to her best to not give anything away as Alex approached.

Brigid... didn't react well.

That is to say she whipped around with surprising speed, trying to grapple him into a sleeper hold.

[Alex Carpenter]

It would have been really dumb for Alex to not think that this might happen... And he wasn't dumb. He reacted quickly, though not as reflexively as Brigid might, managing to get his arm under it to start to wrestle his way out... Not that he didn't expect her to let go and be reeeeeally red in a minute.

[Maggie Ferguson]

"If it doesn't have one already, I'm gonna suggest to the staff that Xavier's form a wrestling team," she commented, between giggles.

[Brigid Plunder]

Once she realized it was just Alex she did indeed let go and progress through shades that looked more at home on fire engines.

"Sorry! Sorry! Oh my God I'm sorry. Don't... don't sneak up on me!"

[Alex Carpenter]

Alex was grinning and laughing by the time he got free. "Awww, you gave up before I got to fight back," he joked.

[Maggie Ferguson]

"Remind me to never sneak up on you. Like, ever," she said, still chuckling.

[Brigid Plunder]

"...and here I was thinking that I wouldn't be flipping out today," she mumbled.

[Maggie Ferguson]

"Hey, it's all right! Some people are just naturally jumpy, don't sweat it."

[Alex Carpenter]

"I just like when she turns red afterward," Alex joked. "Anyway, don't think I met you yet. Hi, I'm Alex," he added, drawing attention momentarily away from Brigid so she could collect herself again.

[Maggie Ferguson]

"No, you'll be the second person I've met here so far. I'm Maggie." If Alex was any better at catching these things than Brigid probably was, she had a definitely Canadian accent.

[Brigid Plunder]

"Yeah, well, you'll get yours, Alex." She said as she calmed down.

[Alex Carpenter]

"I thought that was what just happened," he countered, 'innocently'.

[Brigid Plunder]

"You wish," she smirked.

[Alex Carpenter]

"I'll be waiting, then..." he said, smirking.

[Maggie Ferguson]

"So I guess you guys have been here for a little while. What is there to do, other than starting wrestling matches?"

[Brigid Plunder]

"There's a pool and a pretty good gym."

[Maggie Ferguson]

"Well that's good. I think I'd lose my mind if I couldn't exercise to blow off some steam."
