Alexander "Labyrinth" Kokinos

Postby Alexander Kokinos » Thu Dec 15, 2011 12:11 pm

Name: Alexander "Labyrinth" Kokinos
Country of Origin: Greece
Age: 19

Power: Alexander is a telepath. He is capable of reading surface thoughts and communicating telepathically with others. His eyes have mutated to no longer have the white, iris, pupil configuration. They now have a constantly shifting maze-like pattern. People who make eye contact with him tend to get drawn into the maze and mesmerized. Once ensnared, Alexander can read deeper thoughts or enter the mind of the subject. Non-voluntary eye contact can be difficult though since his mutation has rendered him blind. Alexander can release the individual voluntarily, but he usually doesn't realize what's happened until it's a little too late.

Personality: Alexander is a nice guy who has persistently finished last. Through all that though, he has stayed a nice guy, even talkative sometimes.

Description: A short man with dark black hair and a Mediterranean complexion, Alexander persistently wears a pair of dark glasses both to indicate his blindness and to avoid accidental eye contact. Typically he wears casual clothes and carries a folding cane.

Background: Alexander was born to fairly well-to-do parents in Greece. When his mutation emerged, his parents were mortified to have a mutant son and his new disability only compounded the situation. Estranged for him parents and largely on his own, he was picked up by X-Corp and given a fresh start. He's now attending the university to study psychology in hopes of getting into family counseling so that he can try to prevent things like what he went through from happening to other kids.

I like the power, but just need a little clarification. Are mesmerized people completely unresponsive? Do they notice that anything has happened?

I imagine it as a somewhat progressive process from a somewhat-instant fascination to an unresponsive state the longer they look. Individuals with a strong psychic capability of their own or strong, well-trained psychic defenses can tear themselves away from it.

Although I would conjecture that someone whose psychic defenses are built around a well-ordered repetitious state (sort of like the time tables scene from A Wrinkle in Time) could actually make themselves more susceptible to falling into the unresponsive state, but that's largely a side, and somewhat academic, point that would probably rarely, if ever, come up.
