NOTICE: Genoshan government

This thread will describe, for reference, the government and political structure of Genosha.

History: Genosha was recolonized 15-20 years. The population was composed largely of hardline supporters of Magneto, mutant separatists, and mutants who could not manage living among humans, either due to extreme/visible mutations or mindsets.

Legislature: Genoshan legislation is created by an elected council. The initial committees that make the laws make up a larger section of the council, proportional to the adult population of the island. The laws are given final approval by a higher council that the council selects. Terms are set at six years, except in the case of voluntary resignation.

Executive: The executive branch is more monarchial in construction. At the top of the executive branch is Magneto. Beneath him, sharing joint, equal-status offices are Exodus and Cassiel. The executive branch is responsible for dealing with most day-to-day governing needs in Genosha. The majority of the work is done by an appointed cabinet, whose terms are based on merit and subject to executive dismissal at any time. The cabinet oversees the running of the various government offices, which are staffed by lower-level government employees. Together, Magneto, Cassiel and Exodus serve as a focal point for the nation, influencing policy with their presence when necessary, and more often than not serving as dignitaries.

Judicial: The Genoshan court system is telepathy based. Examination is handled by an independent telepathic arbitrator, who will present the true facts to a jury to determine punishment. The arbitrators are subject to extreme oversight, and any occurrance of judicial corruption is instantly punishable by dismissal and power dampening, and possible jail time.

Accolytes: The Accolytes are the elite Genoshan defense force. Some have been Accolytes since the early days of the colonization. The rest have been accepted by merit since then. The Accolytes are answerable directly to Exodus and Cassiel, as their promary responsibility is the safety of the nation, although most of the day-to-day oversight of the group is delegated to their lieutennants. There were early attempts to put them under council oversight, which was abandoned due to problems within the council (see the next section).

Genoshan family hierarchy: While not an official part of the Genoshan government, they might as well be. There is a core group of Genoshan families that, among them, serve to steer Genoshan policy and dominating mindset. (in game terms, see anything that's been said or seen about Kyra's grandmother) They influence council votes, push for inner council appointments, and attempt (unsuccessfully) to gain executive backing for fairly radical anti-human and ill-advised measures, through a mixture of bribery, favor-pulling, blackmail and outright threats.
