Camping - The Second Night

Postby Kay Haddock » Wed Jun 06, 2012 3:14 pm

When Victoria hadn't shown up again all day Kay had gotten worried. Not enough to say anything but enough to make her stay up at night in case she hadn't dreamt afterall. Occasionally she glances over at the dark lump of Brigid sleeping in between yawns. When something does happen she almost doesn't notice at first but eventually she notices that feeling of something being off again and she reaches over to shake Brigid's shoulder.

"Hey, Brigid, wake up..."

"Nnn, but what are we going to do with the tigers?" She mumbled, before waking up.

"...what?"

Outside there was, indeed, no Alex. Nor any sign of anyone.

The same eerie sensation would lead them through the woods, the same glow would guide them toward a spot in the woods that they would not otherwise have been able to find. This time, however...

The glow was opaque, concealing what was inside. Phantom shapes could vaguely be seen, and noises that were difficult to make out, much less to place, could be heard. Nothing, however, seemed to sound dangerous, or alarming, just... very, very muffled.

The only shape they could make out through the now-very-apparent barrier was the same ghost from the night before, standing to one side and looking at them, nodding encouragingly.

And as soon as they stepped through, it certainly seemed like they were in a dream, because the scenery changed completely.

The village, and the people in it, looked to be Asian, though any more specific than that would be difficult to tell. And oddly, they could hear the people of the village speaking in English, though from the way the words didn't sync up with the movements of the people's lips, this was likely part of the magical effect.

Also, they seemed to be dressed like the people of the village. Again, this seemed to happen the instant they stepped through.

Oddly, though, the people didn't seem to notice them. Everyone had a wary, though slightly dazed look to them. The girls could feel that there was some sort of emotional miasma that was lingering over the village, affecting all the villagers but not them, making everyone uneasy, and increasingly uneasy the closer to the center of the village they got.

As they went through the village, which seemed very solid, though oddly faded, like they were in a movie where the color was off, they would catch snippets of conversation.

Two men, for example, were expressing their concerns over the fate of the tattooed priestess, gazing unconsciously toward the center of town as they did.

The village was, obviously, strange to them, but it was possible to gradually make sense of the buildings. Some were houses, some were shops or taverns, some were... offices, maybe?

The building they were going to, however, was obviously some sort of temple. The feeling of unease settling over the town was also obviously thicket there.

Brigid took a deep breath, and went to enter the temple.

Within the temple, it got even worse... it was like they could feel madness and anguish pushing in on them... and they weren't even a real part of this place. For everyone else, they could somehow tell, it would be much worse.

THe tattooed priestess was not the woman they had seen the night before. SHe was, however, very similar. She was also obviously insane, lashing out at those around her, who were attempting to calm her, console her, or restrain her.

"The host becomes full, full to the top. All the loss, all the pain, makes her weep and grow insane. Thrash and weep, toss and cry, spill the pain until you die..."

Also apparently not a real part of the scene was the woman in rags from the night before, who had joined Brigid and Kay from... well, wherever she'd come from.

The tattooed priestess was finally caught by the others, and held back as one of her attendees blindfolded her.

"Cruel girl," the woman in rags said. "Torturing with good intentions... the Woman of Many Names said the same before she was made to see." She gestured, and (thought it had been difficult with the washed-out color), Kay would see that one of the women, helping to push the priestess down to the ground with shaking, uncertain hand, was Victoria.
